Anyone on the coast doing anything different this weekend? Temps supposed to be 5 degrees the high and -10 at night. I don't know if I should move them in the basement for the 2 days.

I keep mine in the coop with a heat lamp. I also have a waterer that has a 75w lightbulb underneath it in the coop with them to keep it thawed. I put a temp monitor in and the lowest temp in the coop was 36F and the outside was 0F. I keep fresh litter in at about 4 inches, but the walls are only 3/8 plywood. I keep it sealed pretty good at night, but open the vents when I get up in the morning. I do the same with my guinea coop, they all seem fine with no signs of frostbite. The only issue I am having is they hate the snow and stay in the coop even after the snow has hardened over and they can walk on it. It concerns me about their staying in the coop all the time, but hopefully the cold and snow will be gone in a few weeks *Fingers Crossed* and we only see below freezing at night. I will put the lights on a timer once the temps stay above 25-30 at night. I have thought about small heaters, but they represent a fire hazard much greater than the heat lamp (which is tied in place with wire and cannot fall in the litter). I know the chickens are tired of the snow cover as are we. Just need 3 or 4 days in the upper 40's and it will be bearable.Anyone on the coast doing anything different this weekend? I have a Silkie Roo. I can't tell you why others have theirs, mine was a freebie and I needed a roo. He's not pure bred, looks like he crossed something with a large comb and waddles more like a RIR or such. What I have seen with people that have them as pets, they treat them like a house cat or small dog. They are docile, friendly and fluffy. I have my chickens for primarily for eggs and I enjoy watching and hanging out with them. I don't pick them up all the time, because I like them to be a touch wary. Now I don't have any evidence to support this, but I think they are more spry around predators with a touch of skid-dish in them.I don't understand the fascination with Silkies. To me they are not very attractive. Can someone enlighten me?

Anyone in CT know of anyone who raises Call Ducks? I'm looking to get started with some.
Also, if anyone is looking for Silkie or Sizzle Chicks I have some that I hatched out back in December and January.
