Hi everyone,
Poking my head in after a long time away. I get hermit like in the winter but now it's spring, cold though it may be! It was most enjoyable to host 2 Chickenstocks here in Oxford. Last year we had a seed and plant swap too which was great. Those Blue Lake beans were wonderful. My husband is not especially interested in doing it again this year, as it ends up being lots of work for him. We do need to replenish our flock though and having a little chicken party/ swap would be a fun way to do it.
While I work on Bill, maybe we could consider a park or some other public venue. I'll look into the state park near me and find out what's involved, Maybe someone can volunteer to check out parks, feed stores in other parts of the state. That way we could have more get togethers and minimize travel. Happy Spring, Becky
i used to work the renfair in ansonia and we often had the "after faire" party at osborndale, i never arranged the thing so i dont know who to call to set things up, but it might be a good venue? http://www.stateparks.com/osborndale.html
they have a "pavilion" with picnic tables...no grills though so if we wanted to do "hot foods" someone would have to bring a portible grill...
kettletown in southbury is also a very pretty park. though its not quite as easy to get to as osborndale...
im not all that familiar but theres also booth in stratford, southford falls in oxford
putnam here in bethel is another very nice park no parking fees, and they have little grills as well as picnick tables some lovely walking paths, some swings for the kids, and a lovely pond.\\
as far as im aware, theres no charge to use the picnic pavilions before may 31st.
There are a lot of us for a small state but we are also split up. Litchfield county has a ton of chickens but only a few members, same with Fairfield county. MooseHill, me, and a few others are in New Haven county and the majority are in Hartford, Tolland, or New London Counties.
