Are you keeping chickens in a town that begins with a "D"? Be careful...

No, actually we're in "A".
We're on the border of the "D" and the "A".
I have a few feet of property in "D".

hehe

I hope no mods think we're saying "no, no" words!

The mods have a shock collar on me and it isn't going off, yet.

I grew up in Derby and now live in Beacon Falls. Town ordinances and enforcement in Derby is rough on chickens. I'm not sure about Ansonia but be careful. We are allowed up to 20 birds on lots under 5 acres here in BF and a lot of people in town have chickens.

Its really odd because the people in town hall seem to know nothing about the laws of keeping animals. Before we got the chickens and ducks, my husband went to city hall and asked about what we are limited to, and the woman could even tell us 100%. From what we were told, as long as we keep things clean, quiet and non smelly we can have them. We have one and 3/4s an acre, and currently have 24 little ones. In the mean time, i'm totally paranoid that one day the neighbors will turn on us.

It's interesting that so many people think colchester is chicken country since they have such strict laws about who can and can't have chickens and how many etc. If you don't have 3 acres of land here, you can't have ANY chickens. It's just amazing that some urban areas allow a couple hens on less than .5 acres, but here in the sticks you have to 3+ in order to have 1!!!! Sorry, just thought it's a little too restricted.

That is funny b/c I when I drive through Colchester I stop to get chicken supplies there b/c they carry more inventory than the stores around here. lol
