Actually, the coop is built, nesting boxes installed, the incubator is set, I have the brooder, just need to set it up. I'm thinking I have a few days before I'll need it.

Only thing left is people projects, working half day tomorrow and taking the rest of the weekend off and transplant some of the fall cabbage.

I'm actually a little worried, I have no last minute things to do to get ready to set the eggs, so I must have forgetten something important

Hey Beth, I agree - I grew up wearing hand me downs, from my older brothers! My son gets them from 2 of my friends sons who are older -the trouble is he's having growth spurts and catching up to them so the hand me downs are coming in smaller quantities

Now if only I had friends with older daughters for hand me downs for my little girl... oh well, some are better than none!!

Oh, and speaking of clothes shopping...I hate it too and spent 3 hours doing it today with Lexi for her school clothes. Spent hundreds of dollars and came home with NOT ONE STINKIN' THING FOR ME! That kid has no idea how good she's got it. But she's a great kid, so it's all good.

What a fine couple of days we've had. The past few weeks I've been hiding from the heat in the AC so it was nice to get out without getting soaked with sweat in under 60 seconds. I'm working on the "new and improved" chicken run. I'm building it in an area that I can't use for much anything else but the chickens love that area. A large outcroping of ledge makes setting the posts a bit interesting but I'm getting a good workout from the hammer drill and sledge.

I've got three groups of birds, my one-year old layers, my "teenagers" that hatched in march and our home-grown 8 week old mutts we call the "gang of four". They are the product of our little bantam cochin rooster and our SLW hen. Three of them are standard size and one is a bantam that can't get out of it's own way. All are some combination of dark-gray/black with feathers on their feet. They look like little charcoal dust bunnies. I let them all free-range today while i was working on the run. They mostly stay separated by groups, the big girls go dustbathing on the far side of the parking area, the teenagers scratch for juicy bugs in the woods and the "gang of four" spend their time exploring everything in-between and hiding from Dragon. The little ones are not used to being "out" so they tend to get separated from eachother from time to time (dragon does his best to "scatter the herd" too). I love it when they start making that loud CHEEP CHEEP call when they are trying to find their siblings. A perfect summer day spent with happy chickens. Life is good..........
