you must have a very loving husband to put up with crowing under the bed every morning lol!!!! Wish I could say mine was that good but, ahhhh yeah no it wouldn't go over well

Last year I had them in the muddroom for 3 wks and everyday I had to be reminded how much chickens stink

I tried to tell him the little ones really don't stink but, he wasn't having it. By week four I had to move them to the farm garage

That's so funny. It didn't go over well with me either, but I really wanted these chickens and the coop wasn't ready until spring. DH is thinking of running electricity to the coops though...so maybe that will give me more options for winter hatching!

Good Thinking on his part

I had it but, sadly still like them in the house with a controlled temp for the months of November to March. I feel like those 5 months are way to hard on a young one and without the controlled enviroment it's hard to keep the temps in the garage or barn. The heat lamp is great but, if your not there to adjust it allday long up, down, up, down they wind up getting overheated then a chill and before you know it....

I've sworn off hatching during winter but, if someone would kindly tell my maran's and silkies that too that would be a good thing

One of my silkies decided to hatch eggs in January and it was COLD! I had to take them inside because I was too worried about them staying warm. We want the electricity for the heated water bowls and so we can switch on a light out there and visit with them when I get home from work (because it gets dark so earlier in the winter).

Yeah they will!!! THey will be towering over her!!! The last time she hatched them out though I don't think they realized till I took them away from her that they were not a little chicken too!!

Thanks for the eggs! Do you know how they will feather out if their heads are brown and bodies are blue? Do you have a pic of one?

Thanks,
B

Very ute glad u got them to hatch.love those baby orps in a few weeks they will be bigger then mommy

BTW another one hatched today around 4 pm so 6 out of the 8 eggs is really not bad for being under a small silkie
wink.png
The other two is still possible b/c she may not have had her plumage over them enough so only another day or two will tell
