Sorry you lost power!! We turned our generator on last night while we were sleeping just to be safe b/c I have 18 chicks under brooder lamp and then I have a brooder lamp in for my 10 wk olds b/c it's way to cold to early and I worrry about them. So, we woke up at 3am and we didn't lose power so we switched back to normal power and shut her down. But, from what I am hearing we still may lose it? Who knows.

My husband heard a big crash outside near my main coop. He said since it's all a metal structure and the chickens are locked in there is nothing to worry about. But, even though he knocked off the aviary netting a bunch of times he still thinks one caved in.

Sorry to read that you guys lost power, way too soon after Irene for any of us to go through that again! We only ended up with about three inches of really wet snow. Luckily, we didn't lose power. I let my chickens out this morning and they are all scared of the snow. The rooster was standing on the ramp (which did have snow on it) and crowing...not sure if he has been brave enough to step into the run yet.

i think our whole town lost power, my work lost power and the neighboring towns lost power. our wood stove was full and our room was nice and toasty so they can be warm. i hated that i had to leave them but with a baby we had to go where its warmer. my polish was crowing when we left. they all had to sleep in dog crates. atleast they have blankets

Snow chicken.

Only 8 homes in Derby lost power...fortunately we are not one of those 8. Kids are loving it. Chooks think the sky is falling and are liking the tarp on top of the run.

Tina great snow chicken! And about the only one you'd see in my yard, only the barred rock was brave enough to attempt walking through the white stuff, even thoughni shovelled paths!
we lost power this morning; 92% of the town is out and school is cancelled for tomorrow. Trying to figure if my 5 girls in theur chicken tractor will be warm enough tonight without any heating lamp. I was going to put them in the makeshift pen (dog kennel and fence) in the garage tonight but I'm afraid the fumes from the generator would be too much. I may have to bring the kennel in the house and they'll deal with the crowding! Both in the dog kennel (it's a big plastic one for an 80lb dog or so) and in the house it's us four, my sisterinlaw with hubby and 2 week old baby (they lost power first) and motherinlaw (extended visit from north carolina to see her new grandbaby). -

yea i had alittle bit of fun in the snow, my snowman behind the snow chicken fell over, sun was beating on it too much, but my chicken is hanging in there hehe

We didn't loose power, Lucky us.. but a line went down across the street, it burned for about 12 hours. the road was shut down untill around noon when the power co. fixed the problem..
I opened the door to the coop, but the purple gang stayed inside untill late afternoon. It was reasonably warm today and the weather looks good for the week, so the snow should be gone soon.
