Good luck to Bobby with settling back in.
wow 17 days!
I wouldn't mind phone and tv but electricity ~ bleh.
Speaking of 17 ... today is the 17th
a day I'll never forget
I went out to give our 2 girls fresh water and they weren't in the run --
not unusual, there has been several mornings that I woke up before they came out.
So I peeked into the coop man door - only saw Sunny
Over the weekend we finally made time to hang the official nest box ... I thought my Bonnie was in it, but
no (of course not). Then I glanced down at the corner of the coop - she was there on the floor.
Just sitting there. I fed & watered them, she didn't move. I talked to her, and she motioned her head thru the pine shavings - pushing them around; an unusual thing for her to do. I pet her, she let me pet her more than ever before -she still wasn't budging though. I thought oh no she tried the nest box and fell out and maybe hurt herself? (shock, broken leg --you know those thoughts that run thru your mind in a moment of panic) I picked her up. She let me. She didn't flinch - I'm still thinking broken legs. Maybe I should make a ladder to the nest box in case she wants to check it out again.
But now she's in my two hands (I sure do luv her soft fluffiness) and I look past her from where I picked her up
and there
in the corner
our
first
ever
EGGS!
Two!
One cold, one warm.
Apparently one from yesterday, which makes me giggle because I've heard no egg song ...and if you knew how much this bird walks around going BRRRK it would make you giggle too. No announcement at all. She was sitting on them like a pro - I imagined her thinking "YAY! I'm going to HATCH THESE!"
BUT ANYWAY I'm so HAPPY! Now my DH can rest easy because at least one of our birds is earning their keep.
I feel like we've "graduated" in the world of chickens. I'm so proud!
