Connecticut!

Hello. I'm obviously not from Connecticut but my partner is applying for a job in Hartford. The move is likely a long shot, but thought I'd ask about towns surrounding Hartford that allow chickens and/or goats as it looks like there are not chickens allowed in Hartford itself. We wouldn't want a huge commute...

Thanks for any feedback

First I want to wish your partner luck with the job. Secondly, because CT is extremely congested even a short distance can mean a long commute. Sadly rush hour in CT starts at 5am. But getting back to your original question. If you can afford it, Middletown & Glastonbury are good places to live and own chickens. The more property one has the easier it will be to them to have chickens. I live in Wallingford with just under an acre with 4 chickens and 5 dogs. Please let us know what happens.

What is your definition of a long commute?

I commute about 36 miles (40 min) one way to work. The nice thing about CT, 15-30 min from Hartford can get you to some nice rural locations that wont have any issues with small farm operations.
Property is expensive, but it is a buyers market still.

We had to cull our rooster this weekend.

He got a little too protective of the girls. I could deal with him rushing me. I think he knew better than to actually make contact...but he thought he could take my wife. I was in the house when I heard the..."no, No, NO...NOO...HONEE!" She got a few good kicks in by the time I got to him, but he sealed his fate.

I guess I can look at the bright side...I have room for another hen!

So sorry for the guy.
I'm glad I found a home for my "Oh, Henry!". The people came yesterday to pick him up and the wife fell in love with him, hopefully we can visit soon. They wanted to replace an old roo that passed.

Hey everyone, I am brand new and obviously reside in Connecticut for now. I was wondering if anyone had some light colored chicks, ie BO, ect, or maybe EE chicks they are looking to sell. I only want 1. We have 6 chickens approx. 3 and a half weeks old. 2 barred rocks and 4 black sex links. Our coop is being built and since the builders (my father and husband) overdue everything I can not ask them to expand. I hope I have enough room for the ones I have now, and I'm 80% certain that one of my barred rocks is a cockerel also so it will have to go.

Hey all! I found out, upon returning from a 2 week vacation yesterday, that roosters arent allowed in my neighborhood. That said, I need to find homes for my bantam boys. The two older ones, a white serama and an orange cochin, are a week shy of being 9mos old, and the other is a 4wk old multi-colored serama chick that started trying to crow this afternoon.

I am crushed by this. I love my boys!! But, the lady at the zoning office is being really nice about it, so I'd like to get them rehomed ASAP. They've been good little gentleman to their ladies and have been raised around kids & dogs, but I never tried to make pets out of them.

Can anyone help me?! I'm in Salem (between Norwich & Colchester) and am willing to deliver if necessary (or meet somewhere). I've got them posted on craigslist, a couple of online sites and I've sent a message to my county 4H Extension office, but I dont know what else to do.

My cousin is looking for roosters, of course I don't know her e-mail address but I can get that for you. She works/lives in CT but then has her farm in Maine.

I am located around the Southbury area. How much older? Our coop wont be ready to move in for another week or so? And the chickies wont move out until then.

Where in Maine? My husband is currently stationed at PNS in Kittery and my mother in law has a house in Bass Harbor. Anyhow- yes! Please do! Anything to get them to a good home and not onto someones table! THANK YOU!!!
