having two pens side by side, with just a pop door between them, will not actually be the same 'square' footage as having one large pen..
To help this out, when we were hauling sheep around for the county fairs, our trailor 6x20 was divided up into 4 equal sections.. Each section would hold about 5 sheep== great 20 sheep.. Now, if we left the gates open (made from 2x2 angle iron), we could haul in the 50-60 sheep range...
I would suggest either doing completely away with one side, and moving it over to be a new side on your new pen addition, or making another completely different run-- so you can now run 2 breeding pens...
