Feeding hens layer feed (because it has more calcium) does not make them lay more eggs.

Leghorns are probably the best white egg layer.

Rhode Island Reds are amongst the best breeds for laying brown eggs.

Neither of them is a very good meat producer, unless you can get hold of some Heritage bred Rhode Island Reds.

I guess I might have worded that wrong, so I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way. Thank you for correcting me. The article that I suggested to SuseyQ explained about the Heritage Bred Rhode Island Reds as well.
