Consolidated Kansas

Danz, I got your ad on the Poultry swap & asked people to please PM you instead of posting on the page, but I will try to watch it for you just in case.

I just got word this morning that Candace Harding has been in the hospital with blood clots in her lungs & she was having to go back today to get checked so we need to send prayers her way also. I hope she is doing lots better. From what I was told there was no warning & she has had no history of this in the past.

I will be praying for her. That is terrible.

Wow. I hope Candace gets well quickly.

Danz-Hope you get some chicks sold quickly.

It's very wet and muddy here. One good thing is that our place is loaded with nightcrawlers. This weather brings them right out on top of the ground. My guineas and free range hens have hardly eaten any food. They just run around collecting nightcrawlers until they are stuffed. It is hilarious to watch them pick one up and then get chased by all the others trying to take it away from them. You would think there weren't any more out there, but there are plenty. Many of the chickens and guineas are all wet, but they don't seem to mind. At least they can get in the coop where it's dry if they want to.

DH went to the Dr. yesterday. She is changing his medicine again. He went to work last night but only lasted about 1 hour then went home. Now the Dr. is going to have him take a leave of absense for an undetermined amount of time, and has recommended he change his job or change his hours. I really don't know what's going to happen with him at this point. Some days he seems pretty good and others he can hardly drag himself out of bed and could sleep 24/7.

Our first granddaughter arrived this morning! A precious, petite little thing to cousin up with the boys! Here are all my little K-bugs!
Kane, Kace, Kale and Kaelynn! The Lord has truly blessed this family!

Oh wow! Prayers going out for Candace!!

Nana, congrats on your new granddaughter!! That is so neat-- all K's! :) Cute!

Ivy, sorry about your DH. I wonder what the deal is? Have you thought about getting him checked by someone else possibly?

Okay, today we've been busy. We only got Zorro washed today and tomorrow we'll do Zelda in prep for our first 4-H show on Saturday. I have a couple of funny pics of him. The second picture only LOOKS like he's dry and fluffed out-- but he still had a ton of wet feathers stuck to him and he has zero cushion in this picture-- usually he's a cotton ball. I'll take plenty of pics at the show and maybe another tomorrow when he's really fluffed. I bought this "Pink Oil" that the silkie people use to make them fluff even bigger and look a bit shiny. I guess I fluff him and spray him down. I'm guessing it's part hair spray and part gloss? I'll find out soon! LOL

Hawkeye- Love the silkie bath photos, when you guys are done I have a little splash hen that would like a turn in your tub too!! With all the rain she looks like someone drug her through a mud puddle. I am shocked that she is still outside but the worms have been washing up like crazy and the chickens are going crazy with the never ending supply of wriggling snacks.

On the pink spray, I used to be a dog groomer and I bet you spray into a dry coat and then use the hair dryer to blow it into the feathers? That is how we would get a really nice fluff on a dog was to spray then blow dry the hair in the reverse direction, it helped "lift" the coat. Good luck to your kiddos! How exciting, their first 4-H show!!

Nana- Congrats on a beautiful baby grandaughter! What a gorgeous gang of kiddos!!!

I guess I am off into the rain to do evening chores!

OH, great tip!! Thanks! They told me to use it the day of the show, and use a hair dryer, but I wasn't sure what the deal was. I was guessing the hair dryer was for spot cleaning and drying them off. But spraying it and drying it at the same time-- that makes a lot of sense! I was looking at pictures of a show someone went to a while back on the silkie thread and almost every cage had a little "cosmestic case" under it for the bird and I saw a LOT of those Pink Oil cans under the cages. I'm guessing everyone uses this stuff. I'm glad I bought it so I can fluff and puff with the best. LOL!! I might have to watch someone else do their bird before I mess up mine, though....

This pink oil, is it a human product? If so, we used to use it in my stepdaughters hair. It is made for black people. Be sure not to get to much. It is a light oil that ladies use to get their hair shiny but if you use to much it just looks greasy. Trust me. I learned the hard way! It smells pretty good too.

Nana- Congrats on the new baby! Lots of girls being born/about to be born lately.

TntBlake, I tried uploading this picture a million ways to get it to rotate correctly-- I uploaded it rotated right and then BYC rotates it wrong, and on and on. I GIVE UP. Here is the picture of the can in the wrong rotation, if I could fix it, I would. Sigh. LOL!!! Anyway, the can says: "Unlike any Other! for extreme Fluff" "Pink Oil is a unique light showday product that delivers tremendouc body and volume to the hair, along with a light hold to achieve the fullness of hair desired. It works excellent on all types of hair coats, in all types of weather. Great for shows, sales, or clipping. Pink Oil does not get too heavy with oil or make the animal heat-up." I bought this at Atwoods. This is the bottle everyone uses and told me to buy. :)

"spray evenly over entire body, comb in, and blow dry for 10-15 minutes. The hair will take on a natural shine with added fullness to the hair and light holding power"

I think this is going to be a lot of fun! It's like showing horses, really! I used to black their hooves and rub oil on after I saddled them up and spray them down with a bit of gliz on their mane and tail to shine (it wasn't sparkle-- just shine) Although, this is on a much smaller scale and so far-- a lot cheaper! ha!!

Hawkeye, good luck with your show, let us all know how it goes, how exciting! Poor rooster, I wonder what he thinks of all of these baths?

Nana, congrats on the beautiful grandbaby! Cute kids!

I have not heard any more from Candace, I sure hope she's doing better, she had to go back today for more tests.

Well I sold my other pair of rabbits today that I had decided to sell. These were easier to let go, I had not made them into pets. So that frees up more cages for the other rabbits. I have one little Mini Rex doe that this due to have babies the 27th. I went out tonight & made my first next box out of wood. I did all right other than cutting my finger & bleeding all over. I just wrapped it up in a kleenex & kept working. I got it done & since the doe was acting especially nervous tonight I went ahead & put it in her cage. I know she's not due yet, but it gave her something to do besides chew on her cage, she was driving me nuts. I put the next box in there & then she started jumping in & out over & over. Oh well, I guess she'll get her exercise.

It has been so miserable here, it rains every day about the time I go out to feed & water everybody, ugh. It's just nasty everywhere, the dog run is just saturated inside & so is the chicken run & the cage the Ameraucanas are in. It was pouring of course when the lady came to pick up the rabbits too. I'm going to have to make a feed run soon, I'm almost out of chicken, rabbit, & dog food. We have been waiting on the call that our car is here, but nothing so far. I know my hubby doesn't want me to make an extra trip to Wichita, but I'm going to have to soon if they don't call. The chickens were just soaking wet all day & the silly birds were out in it all day long. The pups were soaking wet too, they don't have enough sense to go into their dog run with a tarp over it & their dog houses, so they were just wet all day. I sure hope it stops raining soon so things can dry out a little bit. We could save some of this for a couple months from now when we really need it. I don't think this wet cool weather is great for the chickens, I think some of them are getting colds again. I'm going to give them some VetRX tomorrow.

I can't wait to candle my eggs that are in the incubator & see if I have any growing. I joined the Easter Hatch-a-long since my first eggs I put in will be hatching the day before Easter when they're all supposed to hatch. That is if I have some fertile ones. I have people waiting for chicks, so I sure hope I have some at least.
