Consolidated Kansas

Question for any of you GQF users with the auto water/humidity system. Do you use distilled water in it? I noticed today that my water pan is getting a scuzzy, minerally film on top. This is the first incubator I've had with the auto water, so I have no experience with it. I think I'll put a little oxine or Tek Trol in it just in case there's a little bacteria, but I really think it's just minerals. We essentially have spring water here, but it is somewhat minerally.

Nice job on the coop, Hawkeye.

LOL thank you! Cookies, hu?? That's cheap labor!! I learned by doing.. and doing wrong a lot and re-doing! ha! What I didn't know I Googled and looked on BYC for great fixes. And when all else fails, my DH is actually a really great wood worker in his spare time. He built our barn and makes furniture. He has about every power tool you could think of. He did trick me into thinking we didn't have an angle grinder for about 6 months until I asked for one for Mother's Day. Then he relented and told me we had one. He didn't want me killing myself on it. As it was, I did give myself a 3rd degree burn and nearly took off the tip of my finger with it. So.. it's all in the doing.

(you can't bet I learned my lesson on that one!)

Coop Update!
Haven't posted any updates on my coop project for a while. Rather than try to catch you up with the various things I've done over the past 2 weekends, I'm just going to jump ahead to where things are at today. Spent just over 9 hours working on the coop today. Did all the trim work you see in the photo & the entire roof from the sheeting up. Have never done roofing before & am glad I don't do it for a living. I'm feeling every nail I drove today.

All that is left before it's completely finished is to build & hang the people door & the pop door & to build the nest boxes. Plus a little touch up paint here & there. Can't wait for it to finally be done.
Then, once I recover from this build it's time to make the run. Should be able to knock that out in a weekend since there is a lot less to build.

AND, as a bonus, the chicks I ordered online are scheduled to ship THIS WEEK!
More to come...
