Consolidated Kansas

Not sure what is up with our sweet little lap silkie, Bloom! She graced us with another perfect little pink egg!!:). We had my DS eat the first one today in egg drop soup, thinking that we probably wouldn't see another egg for a while as she adjusts to her new home. Go figure!!
I am using my phone to post, but I will try to upload a pic of her snuggling in my lap with my 3 lb yorkie poo... She is such a sweet bird! I can't wait to have all of them calmed down like this! They like to be held and we hold them all every day, but they like to go off and scavenge for more treats within 5 min. This gal just wants to sit and watch the world go by! Definite therapy chicken!!

Silkiechick, so sorry to hear about your chick:-(. It helps knowing the mama will still be caring for the other one and that you could keep it safe.

Danz, yeah :) The little lavender dude will be a happy little guy too :)

Pikeman, your coop is awesome! I wish I could build something like that here. We are hidden away though, and will be adapting the roosting area we did build to accommodate cold weather soon.

Trish, your foot looks sore! Ouch!! I hope it starts looking and feeling better soon! Those chicks are precious!!! I haven't heard that breed mentioned before. It must really be a specialty. Congrats on getting them hatched!!

Swedish Flower Hen chickens were just imported not too long ago into this country. I was attracted to them because of their various colors & patterns. Some have crests & some don't. I'm thrilled to be able to have them.

Greetings from your neighbors in Oklahoma! I'm posting here to remind Kansas chicken friends that we're having a big chicken gathering in a few weeks. The North East Oklahoma Chicken Stock (N.E.O.C.S.) will be held on June 16 (Saturday) at the Muskogee Fairgrounds. I know it's a long drive, but we've got a great day planned, so if you're looking for a way to spend a Saturday with other chicken enthusiasts, then come join us at N.E.O.C.S. We're expecting a lot of people to bring fabulous birds to sell, trade, and swap. If you are looking for hatching eggs, baby chicks, juvenile birds or adult birds, there will be plenty to choose from.

I'm starting to hear from sellers regarding what birds they will be offering in their sales spaces or in the Pay the Seller Poultry Sale. Here's a short list showing some of what will be available. Visit our planning thread (link in my signature line) for complete details. Also, we still have some space available in the barn for people to sell birds and bird related items. Send me a PM to reserve space.

DD took some pics today. She said she'd get some duck pics later today so we'll see.

medawinks, check out greenfirefarms.com for info on the Swedish Flowers. They are really beautiful birds with lovely personalities. I'm working on a project to create the American version of a Swedish Flower. Our goal is to end up with a dual purpose bird that is very docile with similar colors and patterns to the Swedish Flowers.

Thought I'd post a quick pic of my little Bourbon Red turkey. It's the funniest little bird and I just love it to pieces. Next to it is my lone lavender orp hanging out with the Buff Cornish chicks. The Buff Cornish are supposed to be all pullets and they are really, really active little things.

This is Suzette, one of my EE girls. I'm hoping for some blue or blue/green eggs from her!

This is a really good example of an 8 week old Aloha. Alohas are supposed to have the single comb, yellow legs and have white speckled over orange/buff with some black or gray. I'm really happy with this guy. He looks like he'll be full size, too. Alohas started with colorful bantams so getting them to this point is really exciting.

Just felt like throwing a couple pics out there today. Anybody else? I love looking at pics.

No pics here. Karen that guy is just beautiful!
My darned sinus infection has taken a turn for the worse and I feel like crap. Guess I'll call the doc tomorrow and get some antibiotics. I've been running a fever all afternoon that doesn't want to break.
One of my little midget whites isn't doing well. He was fine this morning. He's sleeping a lot and appears to be having some breathing problems.

I took Cloud to the vet for a round of shots and worming and made an appointment for Marshmallow to get spayed. I have to figure out how on earth I am going to get her there. The vet said if I gave her a pill to calm her it would mess with her anesthesia. I have a really large dog kennel I could use for her but would have to have DH's help to get her in it then get it in the truck. He is working long days this week so won't be home to help much. I keep putting this off for that very reason but I have to get this done or she'll be back in heat again.
I let my K state pullets out of their pen for the fist time this afternoon. They are enjoying their freedom and free ranging but think I'm the pied piper. I have to sneak away from them or they follow me every where begging for food regardless of how much they have. They are little pigs. They'll produce much better eggs if they can get out and eat like the rest of the birds do.
I haven't done much. I ran the sweeper through part of the house but wore out. I need to go feed and water the ducks again then I think I'll go lay down.

This is when one of our ducks got her foot attacked by a predator and she had to go into the bathtub to recover.

This is my porcelain d'Uccle hen, she is my favorite chicken and her name is Pastella.

This is one of the barnyard mix chicks that we hatched this year.

Karen, Suzette is really pretty. I do like the EEs just because they come in such pretty colors. I really like that Aloha too, very nice! I have a suspicion that the only Welsummer that I hatched so far may be a roo, if it is darn, I don't need any more roos. I have 6 eggs from a friend in the bator, but I don't want to candle them till Thurs. I have peacock eggs coming soon, have any of you hatched them before? I have one set on the way here & more coming next week. Hopefully I will get a few out of them. I have always thought they were really pretty.

Danz, I'm needing to get my two pups to the vet too & I told my DH I don't think I can do it by myself. Just getting them in the car is going to be major, they have not been in the car since I brought them home as little pups. If they don't want to do something it's like trying to lead a stubborn mule. I'm not looking forward to it.

Trish, so sorry about the spider bite. Hope you watch it closely -- they can be really bad bites!

I love the pen you made for the little chicks. What size is it? I really need to make one for our run too. Do you have a door in it or does the fence on top lift off.
