Danz, yes the GP has been raised in town & has been in the house & outside. The owner really wants someone who has children or grandchildren who are around a lot to have her. She is a beautiful dog. There is a photo of her on the KS Farm Animal Swap.

Well today is going to be a busy day, so I hope you all have a good day & try to stay cool! Oh & Welcome FoxTea!

Okay, here are the accepted varieties: "The Polish chicken breed comes in both standard and bantam sizes in an array of colors, including Black-crested White, White-crested Blue, Golden, Silver, White and Buff Laced. Although the APA prefers Polish chickens with a natural absence of a comb, it’s acceptable for the breed to have a small, V-shaped comb and bountiful crest of feathers sprouting from a cone-shaped protuberance on its head; some varieties are also bearded."

I'm sure you could show an all black bird in AOV in an Open class. I bet it would be stunning!

OKay, I found a picture, and it was added here to the Polish thread--- however, they don't mention any specifics about this bird, which is unfortunate. The crest isn't too nice on this one, but wow, it is all black! So neat!!

so frustrating! I keep googling references to "all black polish" or "solid black polish" and I keep hitting WCB. Sigh. But obviously, they are out there.

One more question-- all of your polish chicks are hatched with vaulted skulls, right? I was reading a few months back that this is how Silkies got the vaulted skull-- because they crossed them with polish way back to bring on better crests.

Yeah Hawkeye, for some reason every now and then I get an all black. So far they have all been female though. I sold one of them to Candace and I can't remember where the others went. Maybe I sold her two of them. I am so forgetful these days. They are gorgeous because they have green and blue sheen in their black feathers.
I was told at the very beginning an all black wasn't an APA accepted color. I just assumed that was true since you never see them for sale. My polish numbers are so far down because I sold all those roos then lost those 3 hens on one of the first very hot days. I've raised very few this year and am down to less than what I started with at this point.
Yeah I think Cloud stole eggs that were in various stages of development. I really don't care if the dogs eat a few eggs but I hate thinking she might have eaten some little embryos. So we have 6 little babies running around the yard with 4 hens. And another baby I hatched this morning in the incubator that was still in the nest. I have another duck sitting on eggs in the duck house but have no idea where she is on development.

No, I think you are right and they are not an accepted variety. They just must not breed true. Maybe?? I wonder if anyone has tried. You could still show AOV (all other varieties) which means "project colors" that people are working on. So the judge knows very well he is judging birds with non accepted colors in their breed, BUT if you have a color that is accepted in another breed-- like an all black shows up in many other breeds, he can still judge them.. like if they have silver leakage in their wings or tail feathers. And if they still conform to type for the breed-- the tail and wings, body is still held at the angles that are acceptable in the SOP (standard of perfection). You can sure go so many directions with birds... you could really get over whelmed quickly! LOL
