HEChicken,

I've been sitting with my chickens just before dark too. I can keep the people door open for air movement on these hot evenings until they are ready to pack it in for the night. It is very peaceful until they start wrangling over the roost positions. It's like a bunch of 3rd graders trying to get the best seats for a classroom movie.

Isn't it great? Its why I love keeping chickens so much - even during these hot summers. The roost thing is funny. My roost is 3-tiered but of course everyone wants to be on the highest roost. So when it is full and someone else wants up there, they fly up anyway, knocking someone else to the ground. And so it starts over....

My little game hen is smart - she found her own personal roost, and I'm letting her roost there because she weighs nothing. If and when another follows suit I'll probably have to block it off so I'm hoping that doesn't happen.

Heather--- I just called your farrier, but I got his VM. I left a message. The guy I talked to last night said he'd call me back this MORNING. Apparently, he doesn't know what the morning hours are. I have a millions things to do today and I can't be stuck here all day waiting on a call. I'm so frustrated. I'm supposed to run up to the kid's schools today. What a flippin mess my farrier has left me in. I'm so freakin' angry. Anyway-- I've called both yours and the other guy this morning-- and no one is responding. What a sh!tty day so far.

I hope you can get this taken care of tomorrow. How frustrating.

Thank you everyone for the nice words the wound is still there but healing just waiting for DD to get pregnant again.

I'm so sorry.

We do that a lot. My older dog won't take care of business outside without someone sitting out with her, so I do it several times a day. It's nice to watch her wander around the yard and attempt to stalk chickens through the fence, and the birds know she's there and are not afraid. They're just busy scratching and pecking and wallowing in dirt baths.

IT RAINED! I truly can't remember the last time. I hope it rains more than teh five minutes we've had so far, though.

Sunflower, before I got my LGD, I had never heard of the Akbash breed but from what I've heard they are less aggressive than Great Pyrenees so if you see one mixed with that breed, don't hesitate to investigate. Mine is GP/Akbash and VERY laid back and non-aggressive. I'm not even seeing any food aggression or anything with her, like some others describe with their full GP's. A bonus is the Akbash is short-haired and my dog got the Akbash hair coat so doesn't get matted at all.

--------- Thanks for that info :) I will look into that as well.. know anyone in the area? (I'm in Winfield)

To answer a question this was my 3rd grand daughter we lost my oldest dd 3 rd daughter, We got quite a bit of rain last night it was so nice I just wish we could a week of nice soft rain. But will take what we get I heard it was to be 95 today and thought what a cool down. I can't believe I am excited about 95 degree being cool.

I hope others got rain. Hawkeye I hope your horse gets better.

We didn't see a drop of rain either, thunder & no rain at all, again. I was just sure with all of the rain headed down that we would get a little of it, but no dice. It seems like we're in a no rain zone or something.

I took my little Swedish Flower Hen chick that has been in the house back out last night late & put him back in the pen. It seems like a pretty good day since it's going to be slightly cooler to see how he does outside again. I'm pretty nervous about it since he almost died & now I'm afraid it will be easier for him to overheat. I had taken him into the utility room for a day to sort of acclimate him to not being in the air conditioning since that room isn't air conditioned, so hopefully that helped some. He seems to be doing OK, this morning I took food out for them all & he was at the feeder eating when I left them.

I had something funny happen yesterday when a lady came over to look at some baby rabbits I have for sale. She had her granddaughter with her, who is the one she wants to buy the rabbit for. The little girl had been playing with my kittens & running around in front of the turkey pen. The toms were gobbling away & the hens were gulp-gulping & then the lady walked over to the turkey pen to look at them & the two toms displayed both at the same time, like look at us! It was so cute, because they're not full grown yet. It seemed like they were showing off, but may have been a defensive move too.

Well enjoy the cooler day, I too never thought I would welcome a 99 degree day, but it's better than over 100.

Well we got some sprinkles during the night but not even enough to wet the ground. It did make the chickens happier. They are all out hunting this morning in what used to be the grass. I could see lightening last night and it cooled it down for a while which was really nice. The rain of course would have been a better blessing.
This is a post I put on my facebook adapted from an email. For those of you who are believers it might be a good idea to do the same. Prayer changes things!
Isaiah 41:10
This is a prayer for rain in those dry areas of America......join in!!! As evidenced by people living in Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, West Texas and South Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and ever-increasing areas in other parts of the country, the drought condition is reaching critical status. Cattle are being auctioned off, crops have burned up and drinking water is becoming a concern. Please join us in this prayer circle. Let's make this one of the largest prayer circles ever. It will be as though everyone is holding hands around the world.
Dear Heavenly Father, You said whatsoever any two or more come together and agree and ask inYour Son's name, it shall be given. We come to you, humbly, and ask that you bring down the needed rain to our parched lands. Our farmers and ranchers need it desperately, as well as our firefighters. We ask this all in Jesus' name. Amen.

PLEASE PRAY and pass this prayer request on to your circle of friends!

I had a fairly good evening last night. I sold 64 guineas and one Mille Fleur D'uccle rooster to a guy who drove all the way from Abilene. Half of the guineas are going to Wyoming to his father in Law's farm. It will lightened up my feed consumption a little and I certainly can use the money. I also have an order for 5 roosters and 1 duck but I couldn't find the ones I was looking for last night. They are the hen hatched roos and I don't know where they sleep. I will try again tonight. I'm going to call my duck buyer and see if they want to come buy all the ducklings I have left. It isn't a good profit but I need to reduce reduce reduce.
Since I got some excess out of the brooder I think I am going to try to do some major cleaning in there and move my turkey babies out there. It worries me a lot to tkae them out of the house. but they are too crowded and too messy to be stuck in here any longer. If they do okay maybe I'll be able to move them outside to the pen in a few weeks with the others.
If I loose any I will never forgive myself.
Monday I have another 8 guineas going and 10 pullets. Again not profitable but it will reduce feed intake.
Hawkeye, How is your Mare today?
Josie do you think it is wrong to just pretend the ducklings went to your place if my granddaughter asks. I just don't want to upset her.
