Consolidated Kansas

I mostly have just mixed birds to sell. I don't have any D'uccles other than a few chicks.Hopefully next spring I'll have some chicks to offer.

Ok. I don't need anymore mixes, that's for sure (My stupid mutt roos keep makin more babies, a few nice ones, a few "WTH is that?" ones). Keep me updated though!

(Oh, and I would loooooove some more Faverolles if you ever have any.)

I have a favorelles now. I have a few young hens and I have at least one nice rooster available. But he will be sold rather soon as a meat bird if you don't want him. I have an up and coming new roo I plan to breed with to change out some blood lines. My current roo has been producing some less than perfect off spring and about 99% cockerels. I lost my old roo who was an awesome breeder. The hens would be from the old roo and are probably all about 1 year old. If you want chicks it will be probably a month or two. I'm not hatching due to the heat.

With chickens it is actually the hen who determines gender, unlike with mammals where the male determines gender. So the 99% cockerels wouldn't be his fault, but how strange that so many have been. Didn't you say once that you hatch more cockerels if you try to incubate in the summer?

That is a crazy story about that duck. Chopper II

I was gone all day today. I took my parents to the Underground Salt Museum in Hutchinson and with the drive there and back and spending quite a few hours there it was an all day trip. At least it was cool down there. Too cool - we all ended up wanting to leave because we were nothing but goose bumps. Now that I'm home, I can tell you it got way over double digits here. Our thermostat is currently reading 111, but I don't trust it this time of day. I think it is in a position where the sun hits it in the very late afternoon because it always jumps up high then. Nevertheless, I only ever saw it that high on days when it was around 105 for real, so I think the forecast missed its mark by quite a bit today.

I looked like rain but it just passed us. We are under a thunderstorm watch til 1.00am but not sure if we are going to get any of it

We had the most awesome evening because it rained but the sun was shining and I've never seen it go on for so long! Every time it started to ease up, it would renew even harder. There was a rainbow and the whole time the sun shone at the same time. I don't think I've ever had to worry about getting sunburned and wet at the same time. Unfortunately the amount of rain wasn't enough to even register on a rain gauge - just enough to wet the ground and raise the humidity. But it was fun to watch....

Lucky you, HEChicken. The rain went completely around us. We had T-Storm warning and all.. grrr.. I guess I didn't dance hard enough.

Danz - That's absolutely crazy about the duck! I'd have done the same thing though! How's she doing??

Not too much going on here - all's well in Larryville. Gotta stop my drake from chasing the chickens though. He's got his two girls, what in the world does he want with the chickens? LOL
