Yeah, the Keurig was expensive, but we had gone through literally 5 of the normal ones last year, and then we were just using the percolator (is that right?) On the stove top for the last six months.

HEChicken, honestly, a lot of gourmet coffee is really weak. We went to a place in KC last sumer that supposedly made the best coffee on earth. It was weak and gross. I like the Walmart coffee, it's really pretty good coffee. Luna coffee is really really good though. Great for espresso.

Hawkeye, have you ever heard of Odd Ball Yarn Shop? I thin they have a place in Wichita and one in Newton too. I might be wrong but I think it's in the outlet mall there. I-ve never been but my Nana said it was really cool.

And I love my Kindle! I just got a Nexus 7, and downloaded the Kindle app so I could read my books and only pay Amazon prices instead of Play Store prices. But as far as a e-reader goes the Kindle is great. And it's so easy on the eyes.

My Orlandsk dwarfs came in this morning. Unfortunately one of my little cockerels was dead. That corner of the box was broken out and I honestly suspect he might have been injured when that happened. The postal service makes me so mad.

They break my eggs and now in an obvious bird box they manage to smash a corner and break it open!!!!!!
But they are just beautiful! I took some pictures but haven't loaded them to the computer yet. I'll post them soon. They were busy eating and drinking.
I've got so much to do today. I have to finish cleaning. Take eggs and birds to town. Clean out the brooder. Find a place to put my new chickens, etc. etc. I want to keep them indoors for a while so I can watch them carefully.
I ended up going to bed last night cause I didn't feel good at all. I got chilled and couldn't warm up. I think I was running a fever. The last time the wind switched from the North I got sick too. It must blow in some new pollens.

I do that with my audiobook player. I make sure that there is a good selection of books on it at all times. Gotta have something to read.
. I keep mine handy for when I am waiting for kids at music lessons or sports practices and never have to worry about "what if I finish the book I'm reading in the first few minutes I'm there?" because all I have to do is open the next book and keep on reading.

Sorry about the little guy. I'm so glad they came today so that you wouldn't worry about them. How many did you order?

WOW-- that is a lot of ticks! We just don't have that problem here!

OMG--- are we twins?!?! I am always looking at cute yarn markers, yarn, patterns, and of course, read constantly on my Kindle! In the winter, I will watch tv and knit at the same time. I have bought a couple of really neat pattern books at the yarn stores around town. There are two yarn stores on Douglas-- one in Delano called Twist and the other one is Heritage Hut, I think. They have the best book selection. But I love Twist for the socialization.
I got ducks to help with our bug problem, and this year I've had to feed the ducks a lot more than I had expected. We're so dry, we don't have grasshoppers or ticks this year!

I, too, am always looking for cute fabric and yarn. I've got a couple of long-term (I've been working on the one for over a decade, and the other for 5+ years) crochet projects (afghans) that I'm currently trying to finish, but I start a smaller project every now and then to make myself feel better when I actually finish something. These smaller projects started out with the intent of selling them, but I've not had any luck selling anything, even a baby blanket. What do you do with the projects you finish? And, since everyone likes pictures, here are pictures of my two most recently finished projects. The first is a blue-green afghan with a tan border. It is roughly 65"LX43"W. The 2nd is a baby afghan that highlights the broomstick stitch. It is roughly 28"X30".

And, to keep things bird-related, here is a picture of my flock. This picture is about a week old. My goose's left wing is currently wrapped in an attempt to treat her angel wing.

Where is this top 100 free books?
Hopefully this link will work: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1WAS88NC5J33XS6ATD8C

What you should see when you get there is a page of Amazon best sellers. There are two columns. On the left is the top 100 best sellers and on the right is the top 100 free. A lot of them are romance novels which don't interest me, but usually in the top 10 or 20 I can find 1-4 books I want to download. I've even got about 20 recipe books off there. The nice thing is that if you even *think* you might like it, its free, so there's nothing lost by trying it. I've downloaded a few that I started reading and by 10-15% done, still wasn't into it, but no harm. I just hit "home" and find something else to try.

Wow, they really traveled fast but I'm glad they made it so early. Sorry about the little cockerel though. How many pullets and cockerels did you get? Can't wait to see the pics.

Those afghans are gorgeous Lizzy!

Well, my hatch that I timed so my parents could watch is over. I'm pleased to get 9 chicks out of 10 eggs! The last to hatch, I really didn't think would because more than 24 hours after pip, it hadn't done anything. It tried to progress but didn't seem to be doing very well so I finally broke down and helped it and it hatched around 5am this morning. It seemed weak and exhausted so I didn't think it was going to make it and it has slept ever since without moving but just in the last few minutes seems to have got a second wind and is now crashing around in the incubator making a huge racket so I'm hopeful it will make it after all. Even if it doesn't, the 8 others are doing really well. DD and I are trying to handle them a ton so they will stay friendly and so far, when we put a hand in the brooder they come racing over to stand in it so I hope they continue to be that unafraid of us. In the past I've been more content to watch than to handle even my brooder raised chicks but seeing how friendly all of Karen's are because she lets the kids handle them so much, I decided to change my ways this time.

I discovered that my memory card Is NOT in my camera after I took pictures. I can't find my patch cord to see if it they are stored in the small memory built into the camera. Just my luck. DH took a few pictures so I will post those.
I ordered a trio and a pair of the Orlandsk. One of the little pullets is fluffed up and not doing so well right now. I hope she is just tired. I gave them chick saver and food with some probiotics. Anyone else know anything that might help her get back on her feet? It's the little red and white one that isn't doing well.
They kind of blend in with this old linoleum with adhesive on it so it's kind of hard to see them well.

I'm enjoying all the pretty chicken photos!

Here are some not-so-great pictures of poor Old Sophia. She's the BO in the front left of the group picture. You can see she's bigger than the other chickens. She's always been the biggest, even before she was fat. It's not as easy to see here, but her thighs are much bigger than the other BOs. She seems to be healthy, other than her size. Is it really possible she's so much better at eating, or that much more devoted to eating, than the others? Or is it likely there's something else wrong with her?

Sorry about having to look sideways; I thought I had the photos rotated, but apparently not! You can see how large her rear end is, and the feathers have rubbed off or something.

It's hard to see it here, but her belly nearly drags on the ground and her stance is wider than the rest of the birds.
