I have found that mixing your feeds to be a benifital asset to your birds same as the mixing of your foods for your fish. By doing thing you add more energies as well as proteins and benifictail minerals to your flock. So in a way its hard for one to say your better to go one way or the other. IMHO. your better off to mix your feeds.
crumbles
pellets
scratch
grit
oyster shell

this way all your bases are covered. This is what I strive too do.

I also get my feed from Valley
Feed in Bonner Springs I mix 1 50lb bag of 18% laying pellets with 1 20lb bag of scratch grain....I have found that they are the cheepest because they mill and bag their own feed
...also FYI the cheepest place to get brooder heat bulbs is the Bargin Depot in Lawrence next door to Orschlen farm & home they have them in 3 packs for $7-$8

Thanks for the notice on the bulbs, I went thru 9 bulbs last spring. I'll keep Vally Feed in mind although I don't know if it's worth the drive for me.

I use Lawrence Feed and Farm Supply as a one stop shop. I can get everything I need there and if it isn't in stock, they will put it on the order for the next Monday. Some things may be cheaper by a dollar or two at other places, but the folks at Orschelns and TSC lack the conversation skills Mr. Tuckel possesses.

LOL Yes, Roger is entertaining to say the least. I do get my dog food there still, but during the winter months I have to stretch my feed dollars as far as I can, hence the switch to Dumor. I'm going to assume your feeding Layena or Flockraiser, I'm pretty sure Roger only sells Purina.

Looks like ten more inches of snow here in Ozawkie

Welcome Racecar! I feed what Ozawkie Bantams feeds, as I live a mile from the feeds store here. My Girls however are wonderful chow hound egg layers so I give them my composte all the time as well.
Got the wood stove stoked up this morning. Pantry is full and the car is gassed up. Now I just need to put shoes on and take carrots and water to the bunnies!
