Yes they are. She sells those chicks for $5 each but I took all she had for Medawinks.I am trying to breed blue copper Marans, so I am hoping to hatch mostly those. I only have 8 eggs that are fertile this time. I would only need the splash to breed to black copper marans to make more blue copper Marans. If you are interested I could buy up some more eggs and see how many I hatch. I should have a mix of blacks, blues and splash maran chicks. Too bad I can't see good enough to sex them or I would know exactly what I need to keep. These birds are from Davis and Wade lines so they are quality birds. Like I said her birds have slowed way down but I am sure she will sell me what eggs she can.
She does have one hen who is 2 years old but doesn't have the French feathered legs. She would sell her for $15.
Went out to check the mouse traps while ago. My dumb pup took off with the trap that caught the most night before last. But I still caught 52 mice last night. That is 102 mice in 2 nights. I can only imagine how many thousands there must be out there.
DH said that has to be the fastest easiest way on earth to catch a bunch of mice.
I need to get around and get eggs and birds ready to go to town. I need to get a flu shot but don't know if I will make it to town on time.

maidenwolf, are you specifically looking for splash marans or can they be blue? I know Sapphire is hatching blue copper marans, that is what we picked up yesterday from her. They're really pretty chicks too. I don't know where you're at or how far that would be for you though. It was about an hour and a half drive for us.

It's looking like rain here today again, but it looks like on the radar it has all gone north of us. We dd get a tiny bit yesterday, but only enough to barely wet the ground. Things are looking a lot better around here, the grass actually grew back that we had left & the chickens have a few green things to pick at now instead of just brown dead stuff, which is nice for them.

The gal found another window for me for my breeder coop, so I have to go pick it up this afternoon, I'm so glad they found one for me so we don't have to mess with trying to get parts for the other one. Maybe we can get the other end fixed this weekend then so we can continue on with putting on the rest of the OSB & siding. I have not heard yet from Lowe's about my roofing being in, so we can work on other things until that gets here. I can't wait to see some more progress happening on it.

Danz, that is stunning that you have caught that many mice. You should notice a reduction in your feed bill after this, for sure.

Mine still hasn't caught any, but I'm not seeing any new mouse poop either. I wonder if I finally have a mouse-eating chicken that got them all....

I wonder if egg would work as a bait in those traps. Last week I broke an egg while collecting them. The girls were happy to finish the contents, while I put the shell in my storage room to dry out, intending to crush it next day for them to eat. The next day it was across the storage room and on the floor - I guess the mice "stole" it. So it got me to thinking that perhaps loading the trap with egg as bait - something we have plenty of - would work to catch them.

I went out a little bit ago and heard Cyrus sound the alarm. I looked up to see a hawk so large it made my little Coopers Hawk from back in Wichita look like a sparrow. My 6-week-olds were out of their pen and would be the most vulnerable to attack so I ran down and locked them in their pen - they're staying there the rest of the day now. The rest of the flock had made themselves scarce. They're pretty savvy - they got under the tree line where it would be difficult for a hawk to spot them while flying over. Only Cyrus was out. I hope his over-confidence doesn't mean his eventual demise. I think he figures he's too big for a hawk to mess with because he was out there happily dust-bathing in the prime dust-bathing spot, since the girls weren't around. Silly boy.

Well guys I want either blue or blue copper or splash. I only need a couple this year, but with my order to ideal poultry cant afford it just yet unless I sell some of my dog treats in the next weeks to make money, that is how I make my money for my poultry. Dont give up on me I am working my butt off. So I will repost my for sale add and see what happens.

Hey all! Thanks for the well wishes, It must have worked because I feel that I had a great appointment! The Dr actually understood what I was telling her. She's starting me on a few new meds, so if they work, i should see some results within a week. They are going to also do a procedure that has a 50/50 chance of working - botox injections directly into my stomach through a scope. It's supposed to relax the muscle and help food just flow out of my stomach. No side effects, so it's at least worth trying. Someone asked me if I was taking Reglan (sorry my multiquotes didn't work), but I was on reglan for about 4 days and then i started to get tremors and shakes and anxiety, almost like I was strung out with Parkinson's! It was scary, so I stopped immediately!

Still trying to find a home for the silky roos. No bites on them at all. I'm also considering getting rid of the ducks. I love them, but they are so much more work than the chickens. They are not nearly as friendly as the chickens are either and Daffy, the drake, keeps wanting to mate with all my chicks.. grrr..

Hope this finds everyone well!!!!

One time when I was little I stuck my finger in a light socket and it got me bad and of course I cried but my parents laughed and said I was going to die in my sleep. I was seriously scared I was going to die, but I'm so glad I didn't. It's weird how humor to my parents was so different then than now. Saw my parents today and they were talking about when I was little and we were in a store and my dad put a fake snake on my shoulder and I freaked and was screaming in absolute panic and everyone was looking but he was laughing too hard to respond. He said seeing my dd right by the toys like that reminded him but he knew better than to do that again. He said he doesn't even think it's funny now but at 24 he sure thought it was.

14 months is probably my average potty training start time, and they're usually done by 18 months during the day and by 2 yrs for the night. I had 2 that were a little over 2 for night time. I have 10 kids. It was my oldest and youngest that were later for night time training, and they were 2 1/2 and are both boys. Still it wasn't a big deal and there was no struggle or fight. My family always did day care, and in the south everyone potty trains earlier than most I know here. Also, there seems to be a prime age where if you cross that line it's something they learn they can fight about. Starting early eliminates that. I noticed this line a lot with bottle babies, if you take the bottle away at a year it's way easier than at 15 months. That's so sad that your little one had to hurt with her blisters like that but I would have done the exact same thing, take advantage of an opportunity. I also think that dealing with the mess in the big kid undies is helpful in teaching them what it feels like, they don't notice it in disposable diapers nearly like they do when it actually runs down their legs. It's a pain to clean it up but they learn so quickly.

A few of mine nursed until just over 2 1/2yrs, once I tandem nursed but the older one decided to quit shortly after her sister was born. I've heard comments like that so much too. It doesn't bother me at all. One of the kids I put bandaids on and told him they were broken, another I said we can at night time basically limiting it to just that. We never did in public when they were older unless they were hurt.

I don't see any updates about the little chick. *cringe*

tweety, so glad that your appt went so well. It sounds like you have a great plan and you should see results quickly which is always nice. I didn't like Reglan either, it made me feel panicky, like really panicky and made my heart race. It did work to make my stomach move better, but I couldn't take the side effects at all.

We are building an incubator, do I want the fans running constantly or just when the element is on? I can't find a thermostat that measures tenths of a degree. Does the temp still have to be at 99.5 with an incubator with fans? I thought I read something about that.

Well, we just got back home and I'm going to go out and check on my birdies.

OMGOSH!!!! Someone is coming to buy 5 pullets tomorrow. What age pullets do I give her? Do I let her pick them out? How much do I charge? This will be my first sale. YAY!!!

Just caught the first one this morning. The trap (one of the ones we have been talking about, sort of, from Bluestem) has been in the coop about a week, and that is what the paperwork that came with it said it would take. We don't have a huge problem, but they are eating my insulation and the foam pieces are falling out of the wall, so something had to give. I heard my mouse killing doxy barking in the coop, and when I went out, he had the trap out in the middle of the floor of the coop and all the shavings pushed to the sides trying to get to the mouse. I took the trap outside the coop and let the mouse out for him to catch. he was quite proud of himself. He is still acting like there is another one in there, so the trap stays in the coop.

Thanks to whoever it was that recommended putting it where stuff couldn't block the mechanism.

We have been seeing large red-tail hawks around, too. The most excitement lately though was when the Life Watch Helicopter went directly over our house. I thought the roo was going to have a coronary. He was shrieking HAWK HAWK HAWK and the girls were scurrying under the sunflowers. Once they were all under cover, he headed there too. I can't even imagine what he thought it was, but he didn't get under cover until all the girls were safe. Good boy, that Butch.

I'm so sorry. Emporia has an ordinance, too. That one started out to control fighting chickens being bred in the city limits, though, it just engulfed regular egg layers too.
