Consolidated Kansas

usually a young pig will run from you, try to hide, but in all the years that dad raised pigs, did I ever see one mean, or try to bite or hurt you! Just wonder if there were any more of those crazy things there, If there was, I hope some child does not get hurt!

Danz, I know how you must feel but man, that was one crazy, wild pig! I've never heard of any animal being that crazy before. Not your fault, it should have worked just fine, like it always does. I've been concerned for your safety with this little beggar being so awful. This is just one of those crazy "what are the odds?" deals that you and I tend to get caught up in. I mean, really, what were the odds that this would happen? Weird stuff just happens.

I completely understand what you mean about the internet. I work from home and so am constantly on the internet/computer. However, I live out in the middle of nowhere, and satellite internet is the ONLY high-speed internet connection available out here. When we first moved out here, I looked into EVERY possible alternative I could think of, and everything fell through. :( I love out house and its location, but being in the middle of nowhere definitely has its disadvantages.

While we're talking about electric stuff here, I've been trying to come up with a way to put a light on a timer in my coop. The problem is that we don't want to have to run an extension cord across the yard if we don't have to... Something that is also somewhat inexpensive would be good as well... The coop isn't very big 4'x4'x8', so we wouldn't need much in the way of wattage for a light bulb, but I'd prefer to have something that I didn't have to go out and manually turn on/off. Any ideas???
The whole shed was built, start to finish, in 4 hours?!?! Wow!! I'm impressed! We've been working on building a barn for weeks now (only one day a week, due to my husband's work schedule and out carpenter's work schedule). This shed will house (2) 12'x13' stalls for the horses, one tack room (4'Wx13'L), and two vehicles. Here's a picture of progress, as of lunch time today:
Hey, it's looking GREAT, Lizzy!!! Yay!! It's coming right along and I'm so excited for you!

That's so awesome on the shed Hawkeye! I know Lizzy! Isn't it amazing? I've never had anything built that fast around here. It looks like you're getting down to business with your shed too. It'll be finished before you know it.
Thanks, it was soooo fast, I couldn't believe it! Nothing was pre-cut, either! They literally showed up with a ton of lumber on the flatbed and started sawing away. There were two guys and they were a team! Amazing-- really, I was in shock and awe! LOL

DANZ!!!! you did not murder that pig!! I can't figure out why that thing was so mean to begin with. Almost sounded like a wild pig someone caught!! Why would he attack himself like that? We helped dad years ago castrate pigs. I don't ever remember them tearing themselves up like that!!
They would shake theirs butts cause the iodine burnt Im sure, and might have an extra twist in their walk for a couple of days, but tear themselves up, never seen that!!!
Danz, I agree with Rosie-- that pig was INSANE! I can't believe he ripped it open either! And then to rip off the bandages... OMGosh! Crazy! If he dies, it's his own darned fault, NOT yours. Stupid, crazy, wild pig!

Danz, it's not a tuff building. It's a stick built building they built for us on-site. We found them on West Kellogg-- they have a lot with a lot of pre-built buildings that you can buy and haul in. But they can build you one for cheaper-- because they won't charge you the hauling fee. I'll have to run back out and read the name off of the building. I forget! My DH probably remembers! It's for storage, not chickens. Sigh. I'll take a picture of it, too. It has a little loft area in the rafters, which is cool. It's not that big.

My turn, I was getting a huge splinter out of 4 yo ds's foot, I hear cheeping like crazy, stopped to look, the chicks are pecking at the eye of the chick with the hurt eye. It was bleeding, I was freaking, I called for help. 10 yo dd hobbles in and had wiped out on her bike and bleeding. I called for help again, didn't know which way to go. 8 yo set up new brooder for hurt chick, 13 yo holding pressure on chicks eye, 15 yo tends to splinter and I go to 10 yo and get her fixed up, then back to 4 yo and took care of him, then back to chick. Chicks bleeding stopped, I can't tell where blood was coming from, maybe beside her eye, applied Neo sparingly, now chick is crying by herself. Oh no, bread a bit over done, geez, I can't catch my breath. Sigh, typing for a minute helps me catch my breath. I gotta finish dinner.

Oh my. When it rains, it pours.

Danz I am so sorry to hear about the pig. They are big and heavy and sometimes dont realize their size and hurt themselves pretty bad, but goodness he sounds like he is overly aggressive and if it was not tonight it would have been another night that he would have torn himself up. Dont take it out on yourself.
