Danz - congrats on the puppies! They are adorable!!

My drake happens to be my DH's favorite bird out of the 12 birds I own. My DH will occasionally catch Lucky, my drake, and hold him for a little while, which is exactly what he did this evening while I was holding Lucy, my white chinese goose. My DH noticed that there was blood on the snow where Lucky was standing. After a closer inspection, we discovered that Lucky had nearly pulled one of his toenails clear off. It was hanging on by one little thread. I went ahead and cut it the rest of the way off. Is there anything else I can do for him? I imagine he'll be okay, but if there's anything I can do to help him heal quicker (and be in less pain, though he wasn't limping at all), I'd like to try it.

ppmif, the dogs are Great Pyrenees. Several people who posted on here have some of my pups. They just haven't been on for a while. In fact all of the pups I've had went to chicken homes. Mammahen you had a crazy day and night. It was so nice to meet you and your DH. I just took a tape measure in and measured one of the pups. He was between 8-9 inches long not including his tail. They are all pretty evenly sized.
I am still worried about Cloud. I guess more so because I had so much trouble when Marshmallow had pups. I just wish she'd get up and eat and run for a while. Once a day isn't enough.
Mammahen did the faucet work? I really want to see pictures when you are done.
DH is out roofing the dog house. He is doing such an awesome job on it. I told him if he could make me about 10 more houses just like that and pens to go with it, I could have all my breeds separated. I didn't even get a grunt for an answer! I wish it was warmer out so I could paint it but I guess it will be okay until the weather settles. Of course I built the basic structure but he is doing all the roof work.
Maidenwolf, I don't know how to explain this. I am overjoyed. Really, really happy. Nothing makes me happier than to make someone else happy.
My house of d'uccles, olandsk, and Swedish flower hens are still sick. You can sure smell the vet RX in there. I do hope it clears and I don't have to start antibiotics on them. I really really don't want to loose any. So far that is the only bunch that are sick. It's weird because they are by themselves and no stray birds get in there. It had to be changing weather that made them get sick. I have a group of d'uccles that I was ready to move into the pen, now I can't because it would endanger them.
I'm pretty bummed out that I haven't had any pips on the eggs in my hatcher. I am really afraid that our power outage killed them. I guess I'll just keep praying they hatch and are healthy. When I look at myself I can see that people would think I am nuts. I have all these hundreds of birds here and I get worried about just a few eggs. I guess I feel responsible for them once I start to incubate them. And thousands of chicks down the road I still get excited and love watching them hatch.

Lizzy if the bleeding has stopped it should be fine. If you have any veterycin or any antibiotic ointment you could put some on him. But knowing geese he will probably be in the water and mud and wash it off.

As of when I last checked him, about 20 minutes ago, the bleeding hadn't quite stopped, but was only a few drops here and there. That is when I cut what was left of the toenail off, so I'm assuming it will stop since that is no longer there to aggravate things. I do not have any ointment (except neosporin) to put on him. And, I just locked them up for the night (no water in the duck house). Should I go back out and put some neosporin on him?

I got the little mix, I call him Sparkplug, out with the others in the grow out area and it is so small comapred to everyone. Now the little babies ( Danz when did the duccle and mix chicks hatch?) have the brooder all to themselves and one of the little black and brown polish mixes chirps constantly. I dont know what is wrong I have checked to see if it is cold or hurt and all is ok so maybe it is just talkative. I didnt think my 14 year old would be as thrilled as his sister but he gave me a huge hug and thanked me and offered to try to find a way to make money to pay for his chicks food. That blew me away. sometimes as a mom you dont realize just how responsible your kids really are.

mstang67, you won't believe how these puppies change in time. Their spots all but disappear and they become total fluff balls.
Maidenwolf, That little d'uccle mix has been in with chicks 3 times his size so I think he'll hold his own. It is a tiny little thing though isn't he? I am glad your family is happy. I totally makes me smile. Thank medawinks. She donated the two little hens to go with my boys. My other girls are still not laying yet.
I had better get off this thing and get busy for a while. I am feeling out of it again. I think I need a younger body to keep up with my ideas and plans.

Need help. I have an aggressive rhode island red hen, 1 1/2 y.o., who keeps bullying a younger buff orph. I have only 4 hens, and whenever I try to put the hens together, the RI red goes after this poor buff, jumps on her and plucks her feathers out. The poor buff is afraid to come off her roost unless I'm close by to protect her. This has been going on for months. I don't have the heart to kill any of my chickens, but would like to find another home for the RI red. I think if she's mixed in with a bigger flock with possibly a rooster it might keep her in line.
I live in Topeka and would be willing to deliver within an hour away.
