Consolidated Kansas

I'm new on here and I need some help please. I'm trying to locate breeders for the following breeds: Welsummer, Lavender & Splash Orp, Light & Bruff Brahma, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Speckled Sussex, Auracona, Silver Pencil Plymouth, Black Copper Maran. Please lead me in the right direction or let me know if you have something to offer!

My internet has been down all morning and totally not working. It came up just long enough to read the posts. I am really sick of this mess. I have tried everything.
I understand your dilemma. My internet has been down since early this past Friday. The only reason I'm on now is because I'm at a friend's house (I work from home and REALLY needed internet today). My ISP says that it is my modem and do not know a technician will be coming out to fix things. I live out in the middle of nowhere and feel completely disconnected without my internet, especially since I rarely make trips to town... Hopefully, they'll get someone sent out to fix my internet issues soon. I can't keep making trips to town. Plus, I don't want to make a pest of myself. I have a friend that has opened her house to me (even gave me a key) so I could use her internet for work when my internet isn't cooperating...

Hawkeye- thank you for all your info. I knew you werent ignoring me. I know you raise top of the line birds and didnt even want to ask you. I have looked in the past at some of the chick days and so far havent found silkies. I want to buy a few chicks, I do have a pen already for just silkies. I do research any new breed I intend to get because I know some have special needs. I would not feel comfortable free ranging silkies around here and when my bantam cochins go out I think I may pen them too. When we got the silkie in my bantam mix from Ideal and my daughter fell in ove with it I knew I had to find her a couple. That little silkie just got too chilled and didnt last more than a couple days. If you can lead me in the right direction please pm me and let me know. I know you would have good info on good birds.

Hi Everyone! I have been off the board for quite a while. Having a 2 and 6 year old plus a farm keeps me busy! Lol. Anyway it's getting time to start looking for some babies for my daughter to raise to show for her first year of 4h. We have turkeys she is going to show and some geese. I think we might have a few chickens to show but I want to find a couple more breeds to choose from. I would also like to find some ducks too. Ours are mix which is fine but just not for show. Is any one close to me going to have some chicken and duck eggs for sale this spring? We enjoy hatching them a lot!

HEChicken ~ Yes, any board should work toward the purpose she mentioned in the article. I also remembered I should warn you that those scovie ducklings can get out of extremely small wire. And they climb wire like little monkeys. I use 1/2 X 1/2 wire to be sure. I had some get out of 1 X 2 like it wasn't even there.

maidenwolf ~ the guy that does the "chick days" I posted earlier, goes to a lot of different towns. I seem to remember he has silkies. The ad has his phone number so you could ask him if he will be at a town close enough to you so you could go. He goes to the KC area. And if he does have the silkies.

LOL. I am reinforcing my 2x4 welded wire with chicken wire - hopefully it will work!

How small are the holes? The chicken wire I have would not even begin to stop them.

I used to think chicken wire was chicken wire but I found out the hard way that some of it is flimsy with enormous 2" holes! I still have several rolls of that lying around here but its not good for much (luckily it was free so I'm not out a ton of money on it). I went out and bought a roll for this project that has the holes that are 1" or less and is of a heavier gauge wire. It will be on the inside of the welded wire and hog panels, and the whole coop is inside my chicken yard so I think they will be fairly secure in there and hopefully not get through those little holes!

I am 3 hours south of kansas city. I do have a Family center in 25 mins away. I am not sure when the chick days are there yet
