Consolidated Kansas

here are some pictures of my baby goats. All the same sire, just different momma's.
This is brownie just before she had her tripletts. She is pure bred nubian, which is a dairy goat. Her udder is bigger than a lot of cows.

Short time later, meet her three doe kids.

This doe, is a kid from Brownie 2012,

And these are her two babies.

some other babies.

Oh those are cute babies! I was thinking of getting a Nubian/Boer cross for a friend for my little doe, but I think I have changed my mind & want to get another Boer from someone I know will have a healthy baby for me. That other guy obviously lied to my friend about the babies she bought since only one of 4 lived & is thriving now. Yours at least have their mommas to feed them & take care of them.

Hawkeye, those sound like some nice boots, let me know how you like them. I had gotten just some rain type boots at TSC last year & they do keep my feet dry, but not warm at all. I dug out another pair of boots, but they're really almost too small with heavy socks on. I need to find another better pair too, but may just wait until later on since we're almost to spring now. Maybe I will find a pair on sale somewhere later. My feet just froze in those rain boots, they were like blocks of ice when I came in, really painful.

The kids were inspired by msjfrizzle's snow chickens. Here's a snow duck.

Snow recliners!?

And a snow cat!

Thanks for the inspiration!! And now it's time for hot chocolate! Yay for snow days!

Ugh, I just lost a whole post! Hate it when that happens! Sorry to everyone, I had a bunch of multi posts but I am too lazy to go back again!

We got about six inches of snow here, it is very wet and heavy. Everyone outside seems to be in good shape. I just came in for a break after shoveling paths to the coops, again. We lost power several times during the night but it came back on. Thank heavens. Hope everyone stays dry and warm today! Hope this melts soon. The call ducks are having a grand time in the snow, makes me nervous because they are so short I am afraid they will fall in but they seem light enough that they can walk across the top.

Coming from New England, LLBean is what everybody wears. I am really surprised that the people I talk to here aren't really familiar with their quality and customer service.

They used to have, probably still do, have a life time warranty on their products. I have heard of people returning shoes that were 20 years old because they wore out. Not sure what the warranty is now, I assume still the same.

We have been bombarded again with probably another 10 to 12 inches of snow. Luckily the foot we got last week had melted quite a bit. School was just cancelled again for tomorrow.

I had ( against my better judgement ) planned to have 8 baby silkies shipped from the east coast last week, now we are holding off until next week. At least every week they get stronger for the trip.

My ducks are loving this snow. My chickens won't leave the farmer's porch on their coop, most of them except my Polish Crested stays in the coop most of the day. She is such a little spitfire and filled with personality.

We just changed to the Dish Network version of Hughesnet a few months ago. Our wireless service cost a fortune and was so slow you had to set a stake to see it move. I agree, it is better during the day. We have a technician about 10 miles away in Emporia, so service isn't an issue. I am a long time Dish client of his, so I know and trust him.

"So for now, I'm stuck with HughesNet. I'm seriously hoping that there will be another option by the time our 2 year contract is up with HughesNet.

Edited to add: I should probably mention that HughesNet's service is OK when it is working. The speeds are considerably better during the day when there aren't a lot of people on the internet than they are in the evening after everyone comes home from work/school. I have been able to work within the confines of the download limit and slower internet speeds (compared to high speed internet) for the most part but do wish I had other options available. Thankfully, my employer is very understanding of my internet options and has been very helpful/understanding with this most recent outage."

We had an hour power outage last night, and it sounds like we dodged a bullet with it. There are some other areas that were out lots longer. My DH was getting ready to fire up the little generator when it came back on. The generator will run the dish, internet, and one tv OR the refrigerator and freezer OR my coop heater/timers. My UPS hates the quality of the current, but so far it works in a pinch. Our lower driveway was full of snow and the drive from the gate to the county road had a 2' drift across it. My ex brought over his tractor with a blade and cleaned it out for us. We have an agreement -- he bails us out of snowmergencies and I keep his computer running. Somehow I have to get my daughter and her family to MCI tomorrow morning early. Not looking like a lot of fun at this point.

Karen the kids did a great job! I love the snow cat. I'll bet ole Chopper thinks the snow duck is another at girlfriend for him!!!
Gonna be sending you an email shortly.
I've managed to develop a terrible headache and now don't feel like doing anything. I still need to go replenish feed to every one. I was trying to cut out fabric to sew a dress for one of my granddaughters. I thought it was a good snowy day project but discovered I need elastic and I don't have any. It is an early step so there isn't a lot I can do as far as sewing without it. I had some old elastic but it is so old it isn't any good. I can't get out to get to to town so I guess this project is back on hold. Dang it.

Here is a good thread about poop boards. I think I am going back to them in the new coops down in Towanda. I am sick of chickens wandering around stepping in poo, it is gross. Everything gets so wet and stinky too when the weather is like this and they don't come outside. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/621363/poop-board-convert-warning-graphic-gross-poop-pictures
I just got back in from digging the coop out...again. There is a 3+ foot snow drift all around the coop. I haven't seen this much snow in years! Not complaining as we need the moisture. I managed to get all but the last quarter of the driveway done. I will have to go back out later and do that. I will get a pick posted of the coop later. My phone was out of space and wouldn't take the pick.
Oh, don't know what happened to the kids snow creations in my multi but they sure were cute! Love the cat on the swing!
I have LL Beans and I love them!
Ditto to this. They will take anything back too, no questions or haggles. I love Beans.

Hope your headache goes away. Sorry no elastic, I hate it when I start something and don't have what I need and then can't go get it!

It is STILL snowing here.....it can stop anytime now...I am over it!!! We are like the only place in the entire state on the radar that is getting any precipitation. Ugh. I hope it melts soon and fast. DH is working on the chicken coops today in the barn at the house down there. He is building them like a modular home so we can just take walls out with the tractor and assemble them once it stops snowing. I must say I am quite impressed with his dedication. He is probably sick of hearing is pregnant wife carry on about needing to get moved before she has a baby!

Random side note just to tuck into the back of everyone's minds while it is still cold and crummy out. A wonderful lady who has been working on Mille fleur cochins lost all of her breeders in a barn fire this past weekend either caused by a heat lamp or extension cord. Please be careful with your birds and don't use heat lamps unless absolutely necessary. This woman loved her birds and had even built safety cages around her heat lamps in effort to prevent such a tragedy. Please be careful!

I knew there was a reason I had a headache and didn't want to go outside. I just got back in and man was that a mess. All this wet snow had piled on top of all the netting. It was so heavy it bent some metal fence posts over and broke a ton of plastic ties. It ripped down the top netting on the PVC pen where the two newest Sabastopol boys are staying. Good thing they aren't fliers.
It completely ripped down the netting on the D'uccle pen. Thank goodness they haven't ventured outside in days. My Mandarin pen, peacock pens, turkey pens, guinea and pheasant pens all were hanging low.
I had to go in and beat and beat it from underneath to get the snow to fall through. I got the netting put back up that was down. I will have to go out and tighten some of it up after it warms up because although it was quite taunt before it is stretched out and hanging down now. It would be nice if it dried and went back in place. I had snow frozen in my hair and falling down my back, all down my arms etc. I still have a wet butt from sitting in the snow trying to repair netting from underneath it.
Then of course I had to feed every one. My shoulders are screaming, but my headache is better. I have never had a problem with the snow and netting. It usually falls right through it. I think this snow was so wet that it just clung to itself and piled up.
Then before I was done it was snowing again. Not heavy but a fine snow.
My dogs are true pyrenees for sure. I let them out to play and they have found every piece of anything they could to drag around with them. I laid my package of tywraps down while I knocked down snow. Next thing I know there's a puppy prancing across the yard with the package in his mouth. It was fun to watch them play. The snow is a lot deeper in places than they are tall and it was hilarious watching them try to follow the big dogs and falling in over their heads. Dumb dogs are loving the fermented feed. At this stage they eat all the time.
