Consolidated Kansas

So good to hear from you. Yep there's still a couple pups here. I was hoping to move the last 3 boys this weekend but only Mammahen has confirmed she will be here for one. This darned weather is killing me for pup sales. I haven't been putting in any new adds either because I have been on the go so much! Sorry to hear about Sera being sick again. Best of luck with A. and her tonsils. Sounds like you're still going to be busy making smoothies for the girls!!
I have some chicks for you I promised some time back. I think you'll love them.and they are old enough to sex so you won't have to rehome cockerels.
You'll just have to get the kids to tame them for you. Let me know when you think you might come. I have plans for Monday and Wednesday so far.
Shouldn't be too hard.
It is so good to be able to sit here and relax a while this morning. I should be busy cleaning then going out to care for birds but I desperately needed some down time.

danz, is that some more danzsizing, lol. You're really getting a lot of big birds, I hope they pay off for you. I'm feeling better today than I was yesterday, I was hurting when I got up yesterday & I hurt all day. Then I had to make that run to Wichita to Sam's & bought groceries on the way back. All the walking really got my knee hurting that bothers me when I walk too much. I was really tired by the time I got home at almost midnight. I got in trouble because I was supposed to order some tires for my DH at Sam's for the truck & due to having to feed all my critters & the smallest baby goat had the scours I didn't get there before the tire area closed. I didn't know that area would close before the rest of the store. My DH just doesn't understand that I can't just leave all my birds & animals with no food & run off. I had to go out & feed the baby goat her bottle & then noticed she had the scours, so I was worried about that. Baby animals can get in trouble with dehydration pretty quickly if they're not treated. So I had to come back in & look up on the computer what I should do for her. I read that I should give her a dose of peptobismal, yukky stuff, she wasn't impressed with it either, but I got some down her. I'll have to watch her today, so far I haven't seen anything runny, but I gave her some plain yogurt in her bottle & she sucked it right down. I also have some probios I can give her too. Baby goats are babies & they have to be cared for like any other baby. I noticed the older one was being a little ornery about the food this morning too. She is about a month & a half older than the little one & she was butting her with her head to get her out of the food. I will have to watch & if she won't let her eat I'll get another separate bowl. The big combo feeder does have two eating areas, but it's too tall for them right now until they get bigger.

Wow danz, you got a lot of fence, that's great! I wish I could stumble on some kind of good deal for fencing. We will eventually want to make this goat pen bigger, it's plenty big right now for the babies, but later on might get a little tight. I'm also concerned I won't have enough room to build the shelter in there I want to build for them because if you get it too close to the fence they will just use it to jump up on & then jump over. The boer goats aren't as much jumpers as some breeds because they get too heavy to jump, but they can climb. The lady I got the oldest baby from said the one buck in one pen got out of his & got into the other pen on the opposite side of the barnyard the other day & the buck in there didn't like it a bit. They have 3 groups of goats & each has their own buck in there. They sure do have some cute babies there.

I let my laying flock out to range this morning & fed them their snack & then got some grain to take down to the goats. They ate their snack & then all followed me down thinking they were going to get something else. They're pretty funny, I use coffee cans to feed things in & when they see me with a can they know I have something to eat. I thought I would get them out from under my feet by giving them their BOSS, but it didn't work.

Karen, that bit with Jorgie sounds just like my DH & his little Bella, the one you like when you come here. He babies her something awful & it's the same way with me trying to do something with her, I have to do it while he's not here.

Thanks Danz and Hawkeye I just love the D'ulandsk and keep having people asking me to sell them,,NO WAY!!!! LOL I was lucky to have a roo and 3 pullets out of them.
Hawkeye thank you for judging my 2 little babies they are adorable and I really think this is one of the breeds I am going to settle with. All I need now is a few more.

It sure is cool today.. It is my DH's 9 the wedding anniversary. We have been together for 14 years though. He is a wonderful man

Happy Anniversary!

Oh yeah Danz, I'm so done with the cold too, I think the darned groundhog was wrong this year, we're not having an early spring. I just look at the extended forecast & they're talking snow at the end of next week. Noooooo!

They were talking snow here today as well. So far I've only seen sprinkles. I need to get my butt outside and get busy but I am so sick of the cold. I need to shut up some coops cause I had them all open for the warmer weather. Poor chickens! I didn't think to ask DH to do that yesterday. He never thinks to do anything I don't ask and only half of what I ask.

They are talking rain all day Thursday that turns to snow later and accumulates to an inch. Good grief!!!
I don't know how well my expensive birds will pay off but I do love the eye candy. I am for sure going to have to sell and ship but what the heck. I want birds that stand out and have some value. I am tired of the barnyard hatchery type....other than the egg layers. Those are no big deal. A necessary evil to keep a few dollars coming in. Maybe some day I'll actually decide what I really want to spend my time raising for good.
A breeder I know in Texas tends to get all kinds of new breeds and sells them while their value is still high. When they start dropping in value she just puts them in her layer coop. I think she does okay that way. She says she just has so many pens and she keeps things managed to that level. That is real self control. I've seen some of her eggs go for a ton even on Ebay. She really does well. She just got some more of the new Greenfire legbar stock. She has some from the first group that she has been hatching from but they are too dark and many are uncrested.
Her big ticket item right now is tolbunt polish. She told me they are very difficult to keep and raise and not real hardy. But people love them.

Yeah I just got that one pair of Cream Legbars from Eileen, but later on I do plan on getting some more from Greenfire myself. I want to have some different lines to work with & with the new SOP everybody is striving for lighter colored & crested birds. Only one of my CL are laying yet. I just let that one rooster out with the crooked comb to range around with my layer flock, he's really a laid back guy & the other roosters don't seem to mind him because he doesn't challenge them. He has finally figured out now when it's time to go in he needs to get to the main coop so he can get fed. I had to carry him in for a couple of days, but he figured it out. If this weather ever straightens out & stays warm I think all my birds will start laying. Some of them started & then when it gets colder again they stop. They probably don't like it any better than we do. Well I need to get off my butt, I need to run down to Orschelyn's while my DH is gone to the gym. I'm just feeling really lazy & tired today, so I'm not moving really fast.

Okay chicken peeps! I really need some knowledge here. Today is day 20, eggs are due to hatch tomorrow morning. I hurried home from morning church because I have been struggling to keep the humidity level. Only to find one of the eggs is cracked from top to bottom lengthwise. The underlying membrane appears to be fully intact. This is an egg that I was concerned about because the air sac looked bigger than the others! What does this mean?

BTW, I am the one that had ordered hatching eggs that were lost in the snowstorm. They showed up several days later and I went ahead and got them going just so that I could feel like I did everything possible. I have several that were going strong on day 18 before going into lockdown. Oh, and one of the boxes is STILL missing with the USPS!

Ok finally some pictures!! These are only five of the eight. The other three are in a separate area for the whole quarantine thing. I have more pictures of the coop and other birds on my other camera which I will get on here later. These five gave us 3 eggs yesterday and this was their first week laying. None today though...I am thinking the cold weather?? In any case, yay!!!! :)

And my cute baby wearing his crochet cowboy hat lol. Farmer Josiah!

Yay for the eggs! What a cutie, that is adorable! He has some beautiful blue eyes there & what a smile.

mrsdanamiller, He's adorable! And your chickens are lookin' good too.

trish, So, your husband is a spoiler of animals too! That's really nice unless you're the one having to trim the nails and they're hanging over your shoulder asking if they're okay. Those little dogs just seem to pick up on the sympathy factor real quick or else they're picking up on our irritation factor real quick. I would love for him to trim nails while I sympathize with the "poor little thing".

Danz, I'm so hoping you're taking it really easy today. You need a nice cup of hot mocha coffee. How are Big Spotty and the German roo doing? I figured out what happened with my chickens. DD decided to take some short cuts with the FF that didn't turn out too well. Bottom line was they weren't getting FF, they were getting wet feed that sat. Not good. Their health went right to heck in a hanky. We've had a conversation, but now I'm watching her more closely. I just got too busy to supervise properly. Of all the birds to lose, it's always the favorites. Poor little Lucy. I loved that little girl. She was so cute -- always looked like she was wearing a tea length dress.

medawinks and mommahen, Sometimes life just spins out of control. It's so nice to hear from both of you again! Sorry to hear about the health issues.

It's a really kind of sleepy day around here. We just had DD's second birthday party and I'm beat. I'm happy to have my house back to just us. I just put my second batch of eggs in the bator. I set the first batch a week ago and I've decided to collect eggs every 7 days. I'm getting some Swedish, Black split Ameraucanas, barnyard mixes and ducks. I'm ready for my Germans to start laying. They laid one egg and then nothing and it's been weeks so they better stop slacking and get with it -- all two of them!

I need to look back at the hoop house build instructions. I'd really like to get one or two of those built this week. It's a little chilly so I'll need to bundle up. I'd like to get it done while DS is home on spring break this week. Yay for help!
