Consolidated Kansas

That is the Mccune sale I know of that one as well, thank you for all of the info! We currently Have 25 Sexlink Hens great birds! We sell eggs to customers here locally and Im looking to expand our operation if I can find a buyer who is intrested in reselling. We used to have 100 hens outside of Moran KS and sold all of our eggs to a lady from garnett who resold them in Lawrence for 6-7 dollars a dozen!!!!! We sell ours for 1.50 a dozen so we were both happy lol! If anyone knows of a buyer like that please let me know. This is a great site very impressed with everyone on here!

Quote: I've never had a guinea on a car or a chicken for that matter. The chickens do love sitting on the lawn mower though. A guinea would rather go up higher if they are going to sit like on rafters in a barn or on top of the pens.
Does anybody have miniature horses? Or can anybody tell me where I can get information on miniature horses?

My daughter has been begging me for one. I have been trying to do some research but having a hard time finding much information on them. Not sure how much different they would be from full size horses.
I don't but sure considered it. Everyone convinced me how much work it would be. The biggest thing I've learned is that they have to get lots of exercise. There is a tendency to put them in a small pen or tether them. I understand it is very important they get taken out daily and worked. That is the only reason I didn't pursue getting one. I knew I wouldn't be up to taking it for a long walk on cold days.

I am going to be breeding my own sex links this year. Let me know if you are interested in chicks. These will be true sex links, not offspring of sexlinks. I don't know anyone who buys eggs like that or I would be using them. I had a lady buy a bunch from me a couple times when she was here to buy birds. She took them to the farmers market in KC and resold them for a fortune. It's fine with me. I too get $1.50 a dozen but I know my customers are steady. That alone is worth the difference in price.

O for sure! Our Customers are very happy with them also very large eggs. It is unbelievable to me how much folks will pay in the city for farm fresh eggs! The bazaar in Lawrence is reticules, I have seen eggs sell for $7 a dozen and those people were happy with that! If I find another dealer I will let you know.

Wow, I would like to have some of those customers! Around the Wichita area eggs are going for $3 a dozen, but here most people sell them for $2 a dozen. After the price of feed went up so much I considered raising my prices, but haven't. I have some steady customers, so I just haven't even asked them if they would pay more. I usually sell all I have available, right now anyway. When all my new ones start laying I may be over run with eggs.

Boy it's a small world. I was on a forum earlier that is for the Sussex breed of chickens on FB & found a lady who also said she had the speckled variety. I then found out she is lives in my DH's home town. I sent her a PM & she responded back & it turns out my DH"s sister-in-law used to work with her dad. It didn't turn out that she had any chicks or birds I wanted, but it was fun conversing with her anyway. You just never know who you might find on the internet these days.

I finally just finished up the last rabbit nest box & took it out. Wouldn't you know that the last one I had to make would cause me a lot of trouble. I had to take it apart after putting it together once & start over, it went better the 2nd time. I'm so relieved to have boxes all done & in the cages for them. The one little rabbit was already making her babies a soft bed when I took out the last box. I can't wait to see all the babies. They're kind of ugly at first, but it's amazing how fast they grow & start hopping around.

I'm hoping it's warmer tomorrow so I can go out to the garage & start getting my brooders cleaned up & ready to use. I have 4 chicks in a crate in the house that are really growing fast & need more room. I think they would be OK out there now because they have quite a few feathers. I may end up having to build yet another brooder with all of these new chicks I got. They're going to get crowded really fast where they are. I'm planning to build a little grow-out pen for them as soon as I can. I bought some wire for it, I just need to go out to my scrap pile & see what I can scavage to build a frame with. I want to get on building that hoop coop soon too, but I have to wait on my DH to get the rest of the materials for it.

Wing sexing - this is a pullet? Correct?

Been fermenting feed for a few days now- WOW them crumbles soak up a lot of water!! The girls don't like it and pretty much won't touch it until it dries out! I sprinkled some dry crumbles on it and they just seem to peck at those.

RoosterLew, when the chick gets some feathers it might be easier to tell what it is. There are often chicks of different breeds that look similar when they're little. They start getting wing feathers pretty quickly, then the other feathers come next. Maybe you have the fermented feed too wet. My chickens don't like theirs really wet, so I try to keep from putting too much water in until I see how it's going to be when it soaks all up. They like it soaked up, but not runny.

off to the funny farm, where life is beautiful ALL THE TIME!!
I'm catching up on with everyone and this made me stop and LOL! I feel like that's where I'm living today. I had an unbelievably crazy day here at the funny farm! And the chaos started right at 4:00 when my cherubs got off the bus. It was such a beautiful day until then -- nothing against them. It's just sometimes things just start to spin out of control around here and once they get started, the spin goes wild! Some days everything just seems determined to unravel no matter how fast I'm knitting at the other end! (And I don't even really know how to knit, maybe that's the trouble!)
