LOL. I am still feeling pretty lousy. I'll get to where I'm not feeling so bad, then I'll get up and as soon as I'm vertical, I feel terrible again. All I've done today is take care of the animals and cook dinner. And lunch for DH. And breakfast for DH. LOL.

I just came in from collecting eggs and I have two more broodies. Egad. Duck #3 laid an egg today and I saw her out earlier with the other ducks but she is broody as can be this evening and she and the cochin, who has been broody for several days were fighting over who gets the nest and eggs. I moved the cochin to another nest and peace reigns again. Meanwhile, the last of the silchins to succumb, is flattened out in another nest. Now I think about it, she was like that yesterday too but I didn't give it a second thought, thinking she was just in there laying her egg. But her complaints over me moving her to collect eggs confirmed it tonight. If only I could get the cochin and 2 silchins moved to the hoop coop, I'd be happy to let them incubate for me but they're fighting me on moving them, even though I've tried at night, given them eggs, locked them in etc. I didn't put up too much of a fight yesterday knowing the storm was coming in, but tomorrow or the next day when the weather has leveled out a little, I have one last trick up my sleeve to get them moved and then we'll see what they can do. Last resort, I'll let them sit for 3 weeks and continue to collect the eggs each day, then give them each a few poults to raise and let them be Mamas. The turkey eggs are in the incubator and due to hatch right around the time they'll have been broody 3 weeks give or take, so the timing is excellent. Of course, I also have tutors cooking so they might end up having to raise the tutors for me too. Bwahahaha.

Hey.. He and Danz... ( i have bird brain too .. i got it.. grin..)
When I was reading up on VetRx on Amazon.
by one of the customer's.. they said.. the company used to make a variety for babies/ humans.. and it was about the same stuff.. if your not opposed to using Med's for animals.. ? ... you might have that in your cabnet..
just a thought..
I saw.. that some one here uses the syringe.. me too.
I try to use it 1/ week in shower.. just because its so dusty out here..
regular use may help.. those with sinus inf.. 3-4 / day is not too much
I'v also used aloe vera..in salt water.. to .. to sooth the mucus membraines..
the special salt is worth the purchase.. ( one with out the noncaking agent)
ymmv... but it works for me. just for the health of it..
...... wishing you all .. a better tomorrow.. and good rest tonight.

"He".. thanks for the poo report..
they are able to make the BM.. but.. it looks like.. the little butt pokes out.. when she chirps..
then it goes back to normal -- and then she'll wait.. 30 sec.. or so.. and do it again.. .. and it may take 5-7 times of this to get the poop out..
--- I hope this clears up before egg laying time comes..
butt. for now I'll worry a bit less.. pun intended..

May 2nd and I have my heater back on :( what is happening with this weather?????

Does anyone have or know of anyone that has the large Dewlap Toulouse geese? I think this is what they are called - maybe giant or exhibition....... I am finding them "interesting" and thought I might like a pair.......

Hope you all are staying warm!

Found my 6 week old polish chick cold, weak, she tries to stand and falls over, beak open and constantly swallowing. I brought her in the house wrapped her up in blanket put her by heat source to warm her up, gave her electrolytes to drink. any suggestions on what else to do, any chances of pulling her out of this?

This is Curly Sue
I love all the pictures, but I think Curly Sue is my favorite. She's really cute.

Hey Rooster - if its working for you, don't change a thing! I swear that riding my horse has medical benefits enough that I should be able to claim him as a tax deduction. I used to be at the chiropractor a couple of times a month before I got him, but in the last 3 years, I've only been once or twice.

I think it makes sense that things work differently for different people. That's why there are so many variations of the same drug, etc. Our bodies and individual chemistry and genes are all different. Dogs are good for the health, too. They lower blood pressure in many people, and kids who grow up with dogs tend to have fewer allergies.

I am feeling lousy. DD shared her cold with me, so I am tucked in feeling as lousy as the outdoor weather.

I hope you're feeling better. Danz, too. I spent yesterday doing nothing but doze and read. My neck and back ached (weather-related, mostly, I think) and sinuses were making me tired. I was more energetic, which was good because we had a ton of errands to run.

With this nasty weather, I decided to bring the big(ger) girls in last night. They are all warm but are squaking it up. I think they need more space than they have right now, but I'd rather have angry chickens than frozen chickens. Thank you to everyone that weighed in on my newbie question!!
So, chicken math struck again, as DD1 got a pair of bantams for her birthday. We couldn't resist and ended up with a welsummer and an easter egger, also. We are up to 12! No more!! DH is threatening no more trips to the feed store

I hope everyone is staying warm today! It's pretty nasty over here in Topeka. So far, there's a layer of ice over everything and it's been snowing for a few hours. DH had to drive to Manhattan for school today, so I'm hoping the roads aren't terrible.

That made me laugh. Last year, DH would run out and get dog food or chicken food without me because he was afraid we'd keep coming back with chicks.

I lost one of the "Fat Kids" (Cornish Cross) to this lovely Kansas weather last night. I am extremely unimpressed! She was my favorite fat kid!

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that.

I can't think of anything you're not already doing, but I'm no expert on it. I hope she pulls through.

It's supposed to get down to about 30 tonight. We didn't go cover stuff up at the garden this time. No one else has been and their stuff looks fine. My luck, it'll all wither and die! Keep your fingers crossed for my poor little plants.

I've done nothing but nap so far today. Totally out of character for me. I've got to get myself out to care for the birds regardless of how I feel.
BBSnooks, I put the wood floor inside and have a two walled coop within the hoop itself so I can use it regardless of weather. I prefer the chickens aren't on the ground itself. It keeps eggs cleaner and keeps them drier. I made a small vent on the south side and then there is the door on the north side. It is not facing the direction I wanted it but it is way too heavy to move. I also have the tarp offset so there is about 1 foot along the bottom of the coop part on the east side to let air through. The reason I have the opening on the east is to block off afternoon sun and cold winter winds from the west. Then allow air flow to go through the coop. Once I buy a nice permanent tarp I would like to make that side so I could fold it up or down depending on the weather conditions. My hoop coop isn't as open as most. It's moe like a building with a tarp for a roof.
The next one I build will be similar but it will be two building sections in the middle of the total length. It will be running east and west instead of north and south like the first one.

I hope you start feeling better soon, that's miserable.

HEChicken, I hope you feel better soon also.

What's with the multi-quote, it's not working right at all? Well now I can't remember all I read, I had to catch up.

Josie, it's good to see you back, I hope that little one is doing well, she's just precious.

Today was such a miserable day, I hate this cold, I hurt so bad all day long. We had to do shopping today out in it & all I really wanted to do was crawl into bed & stay there.

tweetybaby2005, yes I'm still hatching chicks, there were several hatching today. I will have some guinea eggs going into the incubator soon. I was hoping to get a dozen to put in, but they haven't laid with this cold weather the last couple days so we'll see.

whew! catching up on posts how time flies . I just covered up the blueberries I hope they will be ok,last year it was blueberry "math" found some for 2 bucks and thought wow ,then after getting them home found out I would need a different variety for them to pollinate so,,,off to the blueberry patch to get something different and now we have ten. I hope this weather doesn't mess up the berries. This year it's chicken math , got five more at Orsh. last weekend 1 blk sex link, 2 EEs and 2 bantams. What was I thinking!

22qzoo, Our soil is too lime and doesn't drain enough to grow blueberries. I wish I could. I love them. In fact most of what I plant that wasn't native has a hard time here.
Chicken math? Hummm! I wonder how that happens?

deb516 glad your chick is doing well.
I'm still feeling crappy today but at least I felt like getting out of bed this morning. The longer I am up the worse I feel though. I have to get some birds moved and get to town today regardless. I think if the sun would shine and it would warm up it would make me feel that much better.
I have quite a bit hatching today so I need to get in gear.
I hope all of us people affected by aches and pains will have some relief soon.

Yeah, our soil is to limey too but I put them in a part of our yard that had been altered added sand, peat, and sulfur and lots of pine bark.Good news this am. they still look great! Sorry you're feeling yucky at least if you give yourself some healing time today you won't have to feel bad about wasting a nice sunny seventy five degree day. This is definitely pull the covers over your head weather.Have a good day all, hope the rest of you that aren't feeling well get better.
