I think I am going to give my girls a protein boost, as my chicken house mice have become quite bold. I turn on the light and there are at least 10. I am going to set snap traps inside of a cage in the floor. The ones I catch in the house are eaten right away. My guess is that if you can see 10 you got a hundred. So why not convert mice to eggs!!

We live on 160 acres that is surrounded by corn and soybean fields and woods. Our shop and barn were OVERRUN with mice. I set traps and went through a bucket of rat bait. The shop smelled like mice. It was terrible. They would crawl over stuff every night. We gave up and got a couple barn cats. Another stray cat showed up that subsequently had kittens. We now have 4 cats, including one stray that hangs around but WE HAVE NO MICE! I'm not a cat person. I really don't care that much for them. I'll take a dog any day. However I view our cats as having a job to do and they do it well. They all stay out in the shop and the old barn. Any mouse that wants to move in doesn't last long.

I would recommend a feline rodent patrol to anyone with mice problems.

Revolutionmama-So sorry about the loss of your friend. You chickens are beautiful. Hope your auction goes well.

Considering the fact that I am on the opposite corner of the state, probably not.

Hooker, Oklahoma? My sister lived there for a while many years ago.

I have some family not all that far away around Garden City and Lakin, KS.

I have some great news!

I will be getting some lavender ameraucanas from pips and peeps. I'm so excited! I can't wait to get going on my breeder barn, but darn this wind! It is blowing so hard out it is hard to stand up. The first thing that happened today was I opened up the door to get the eggs out of the nestbox in my chicken tractor. The wind immediately blew the shavings, dust and poop right up in my face.

By the time I had reached the eggs, about half of the shavings in the house were blown out.

I decided I didn't need to be out working on that barn and have the same thing happen with that old barn poop every time I moved a board or a block.

I wimped out on the project for the day.

The cold and wind is terrible here in Lawrence, too! The storm last night spooked my broody swedish blue duck off her nest and she's yet to go back.... figure I lost about 15 eggs she and the other ladies had stock piled.

Nice. It looked like that storm was a bit worse on that side of the river, all I got was some ping pong hail stones for a couple minutes.

That's really all we got, but it did rain and thunder pretty hard for a while. I guy I work with lost a window and most of the siding on one side of his house. He's got the insurance man coming out to look at the roof also. He lives in Olathe though, I guess they got it much worse that we did.

I got massive hail damage as I drove home last night, shattering my windshield and denting the heck out of my car. I'm going to have to get it looked at...

Glad you are ok, Renee. At least your car can be replaced (as inconvenient, expensive, and sucky as that can be), but there's only one Renee!!

Aren't you sweet!? ...some would say that's a good thing...plural Renee could be WAY TOO MUCH!!

I'm really shocked it looks as good as it does, as there were folks pulled over all along the road with massive damage. I drive a big Grandma car- 2003 Monte Carlo. It's pretty serious steel in that thing. The dents are fairly big where they hit- I LOVE KANSAS!!

I dont think that is a Roo Mike.

Why's that? How can you tell? I have a lot of other folks here saying it is. Doesn't matter to me either way.

Mike,
For that age it may have red, but the comb should be much bigger I'd think, but i am not the chicken whisper such as a couple others are. Just my observation.
