Consolidated Kansas

Have you considered getting one of those old time diaper stackers or making one? They are really simple. It would save you a ton of drawer space. Actually you could have two of them. One for the diapers and one for the inserts. They just hang by hangers so they could go in a closet or something.

I found an easy pattern. http://www.trishscrafts.com/diaper_stacker.html
There are some more out there but this was the first one I came up with that had a decent shape.
That is a brilliant idea!!! I'll have to look into making one. In the mean time, the diapers are in the dresser (yes, currently - as in Operation Organize Nursery is now under way!!!). I'll also have to figure out a place to hang the diaper stacker... We don't have any closets on the main floor of the house, nursery included.

I am working on washing clothes and everything so I can put it all away. For now, here's a before and after of the dresser. We are still waiting on the wood putty to dry, so that is why there are a couple areas on the front of the dresser that are still unpainted... My hubby did such a good job!!!

There are people who would scream if they saw that. An old antigue oak dresser painted white. But yes it looks great. Looks like it had some dings that would be near impossible to fix to keep it oak.
I have one almost identical I am thinking of remodeling for a basement bathroom vanity. I bought a little vanity a few years ago for it but have since changed my mind about wanting to use it. They sure don't make solid wood furniture like that now a days. How about putting a hook or two on the wall to hang the diaper bag or even one on the side of the dresser if you have room for it? I just figured you probably had some more of your fabric left that you could use for the diaper stacker project even if you pieced it together.

The dresser was pretty banged up. We contacted a local antique dealer and sent them pictures of the dresser. They said it was only worth about $50, which is why we decided to go ahead and repaint it. The middle drawer was badly warped and was missing a track to slide on. It also had some cosmetic flaws that would have been difficult to fix without repainting or re-staining. I think the original color was dark and gloomy, but I really liked the wavy front.

I was thinking that the diaper stacker could either hang off the side of the crib or hang from the wall next to the crib. I was even wondering if there was a way we could attach it to the shelves that I want to add to the room... Storage is one thing we lack throughout the house, so I am happy you shared an idea with me. I do, indeed, have fabric leftover from the nursery set and will likely have plenty left over even after I am finished with the rest of the pieces (not everything has been cut yet, and I am not quite done with it, but all the visible pieces except for the wall decorations are done).

Lizzy are you using a changing table? If so, I would hang the diaper stacker either from the table or as close to it as you can get. That will make it more convenient when changing, to grab a diaper without taking a hand off baby.

What a difference. You really saved that old dresser.

could you hang the stacker from the corner of the crib or co-sleeper or whatever you are going to use for diaper changes?
We are currently planning on using the crib. I think we might be able to hang it from the side of the crib... At least until Baby is old enough to toss it on the floor. :)

Nope, no changing table, though we could possibly use the side of the crib.

I had a busy day today doing projects around the place. I got out the ladder and took a good look at the solar panel. I think I know how to permanently fix it so it gets better sun but for now I did a temporary relocation that improves its aspect. It has opened and closed the past two days so perhaps the battery charge got low after a few overcast days.

I also set about to fix it so the goats have to stay in the pasture unless we let them out. My first fix lasted 10 minutes. Oh, it kept them in alright - but it took them 10 minutes to find another place to break out. So I fixed the new place. Meanwhile they were out and I let them stay out and mid-afternoon got a call from my neighbor, asking if I was missing a pair of goats. Sigh. Wouldn't you know after weeks of free-ranging in which they have never left the property, the day I close the gaps so they can't get out, is the same day they actually do leave. So DH and I went and retrieved them and put them back in the pasture, where they stood and shot daggers at me for a long time, for treating them like common barnyard animals, and then they decided to make the best of it and started grazing. I really enjoyed looking out the window for the rest of the afternoon and seeing the sheep and goats grazing IN the pasture.

I also downloaded pics from my camera and discovered that DH and DD took pics of the fox the other day - I hadn't realized that. So, here they are:

I put that last pic in because it shows how close DD was able to get to it while taking pics.

Lizzy I did see a diaper stacker hanging from a shelf unit. But I would be afraid if the shelves were affixed to the wall that it might tend to tip them over. Diapers can be pretty heavy. I agree that near where you change would be most convenient. I never had a changing table for any of my kids and always just changed diapers in the crib or whatever was available. I guess I never saw the importance of it and if floor space isn't a premium why take up the space? You could however make a changing pad for the top of your dresser if you needed a place.
I always loved making nursery items myself. I have stuff to do a complete nursery for one of my daughter in laws if they ever decide to have children. I've had all the fabric and stuff for a couple years. She's in pre-med and he is a government engineer so right now their life is a bit too unsettled to start a family.
Of course with all these birds I don't have time to sew. I have to just make time to work on projects.
The next several days are going to be really busy. Yesterday we went to Emporia and met Queen and King Bee. Then we went to the verizon store and got new phones. It took 2 and a half hours just to get the things set up. The worst part is that we got smart phones and I am not smart enough to operate it. You have to look up instructions on line so I need to at least do that. I can call and answer but that is the extent. I honestly don't need a lot of stuff although it would be handy at times, once I have the time to figure it all out. I've already felt my blood pressure rising trying to figure it out.
I've got to get a load of feed today as well as make a trip to town. I need to check the weather and see when the cold front is coming in so I can get it offloaded before it rains. Nothing is ever simple any more. Tomorrow and Sunday I am going to be full up as well. I have peeps in both incubators I need to relocate as well. Argh! Somewhere in there I need to carve out a few hours to feed and water all the birds.
HeChicken I used to have that fox that lived behind my house when I lived in Council Grove. I learned a lot about them then. They are just naturally curious and don't have a lot of fear. I always wanted to capture one of the kits and keep it for a pet. Of course I didn't have chickens back then. They actually remind me of cats the way they play.
Between you and Trish I am glad you got goats. It reminds me of why I sold all mine. I remember how cute they were then when you guys post your problems I also remember how much of a pain they could be. Keep posting so I won't be tempted to bring any more sweet little kids home!

Well, I can't help you out there today because the goats are being very good today. They are now fenced in and they are NOT happy about it, but they'll adjust. They keep crying pitifully whenever I go out, begging me to let them out. They weren't a huge problem out and until yesterday had never left the property. But, we were getting tired of the poop on both the front and back porch. I was spending too much time sweeping and I'd really rather that was going to fertilize the ground than be swept of the porches anyway, so.....confined they will be (if you can call 7-acres confinement).

I do remember you talking about your fox. For me growing up in Australia they are the only predator we had to worry about when it came to poultry, and we lost many a flock to foxes, so it is hard for me to think of them as anything but vermin. Same with raccoons. The other day I was out with my sister and a friend and we drove past a raccoon that had not long before been hit by a car and the turkey buzzards were all over it. As we drove past, I was surprised to hear the others say "Ohhh....what a shame". I just cannot think "Raccoon" and "Oh what a shame" in the same sentence.

I actually think we had another fox sighting this morning. I was out working in the chicken yard when a cockerel went behind the hoop house, looking into the hedge, and started sounding the alarm. A moment later I noticed ALL the birds were hiding behind the horse shelter. Mama Sultan is in the hoop house right now with 6 or her own chicks and about 6 more from an older batch. She had all of the chicks in the dog kennel while she was out bravely scouting to assess the danger level. I never saw it myself, but I suspect that cockerel did. I'm thinking about asking my dogs to spend the day in the chicken yard today. They won't be happy about it but if it keeps the birds safe.....

Jumping in to see how everyone is doing. I was on a big project that needs to be done before the 10/15 tax deadline. Been working 12+ hours for over a week. Going online was the last thing on my mind. My birds are doing well. I miss going down to the coop to see them. By the time I get home, it was dark and they have gone to bed.

I'll read the posts when I get a good rest and then start posting more regularly again.
