Consolidated Kansas

There was a group here in town that was trying to round up and sterilize the feral cats. I never heard how that turned out, but I guess it's better than nothing. I can't imagine a lot of people donated money for it, though.

60s today... sweet! We've been building to be able to live off the grid in a shipping home :) This has been a fun project and today is going to allow more progress and productivity... anyone here live off the grid? (solar, wind, etc..) Would love to hear your experiences - success/failures.. it is amazing how much room is in one of those containers. I have one sitting on my property here and am wanting to turn it into a barn/storage facility. (I have a window put into the side of it and that is it so far...)

C Danz, wondering if you were a breeder?

Yes I do breed chickens etc. I don't know if you would officially call me a breeder per say. Depends on your definition on the word. I hatch and sell pure bred chicks. And I am just dabbling with some custom colors for myself...actually trying to come up with some birds I can't afford to buy. I always hatch but plan to do some custom hatches this spring with any luck so I can sell the chicks without feeding them out. My costs are insane.
I will call that humane society on Monday. Many people have no idea what an actual feral cat is. They just think an abandoned cat is feral. Not at all the case. A feral cat can be a cat that has once again become wild (not domestic) and trains it's offspring wild behavior when they are quite young. Those offspring again breed and the continue to multiply producing more non-domestic cats which are wild animals not just stray domestics.
Wow! The wind is blowing like crazy out there. I hope it dries up some of this mud. I swear that it took twice as much energy to feed and water yesterday just dragging my boots through the mud. I honestly dread going out even though it's supposed to be warm because I know that wind is going to kick the ole allergies up like crazy.
I finally got the rest of my Christmas stuff put away yesterday. Sure seems like it took me a long time. I need to do some reorganizing soon so I can find things next year. I could drag out my valentines stuff but I doubt I do. I used to decorate for every holiday and I have lights and stuff to hang out doors for each of them. I really should get rid of some of this since living out here doens;t expose it to being seen my many.

CHICKENROOKIE is there something in particular you're looking for? Danz & I both hatch chicks & I can't remember where you're at so depending on that which of us might be closer. There are some others around that do hatch some too, it just depends on what you're looking for.

It's windy as all get out today, it's supposed to be warmer, but I could hear the wind howling before I even got out of bed. Of course I move a lot slower now than I did before with a broken leg, ugh. I hate it I can't go see my chickens, I miss them.

I caught a break this morning, and I now know which pullets are laying.

I have two pure blue copper Marans pullets. One of them has distinct lacing on her feathers (if that is the right word for a darker line around the edge of each feather), and the other one is more solid blue/gray. The one with the lacing is laying the lighter egg on the right, and the one with the more solid coloring is laying the egg in the middle. The white egg is from my Campine. The colors are fairly accurate, just a little light.

I finally got a good picture of my Marans roo this morning.

You talkin' to ME?

This is a better shot of his curly tail feathers. I don't know if it is good or bad, but they are really pretty.

He is a handsome boy.
