Consolidated Kansas

I am pretty sure she is being broody, I have to push her out of her nest area......If i don't give her eggs to hatch, does she brood longer?

If you don't give her eggs to hatch she will just keep being broody. That's about the only way you can break her of it is to let her hatch some.

ashn my experience is if you can keep her off the nest for several days you can break her, however her desire is pretty strong and she will most likely try again. I have a hen I've been arguing with for more than 6 weeks, she will go to the nest and if I lock her off for a couple days she gives up. Today I got her some duck eggs to sit on because she is so determined, maybe by the time they hatch it will be warm enough. I got duck eggs because while sitting they will tolerate a little cold and baby ducks aren't as fragile as chicks,my opinions only no scientific facts

I made a couple of chicken saddles today. I used the regular pattern you find about anywhere and it just didn't stay in place right. So I did some adjusting, rebuilt the first one and made a second. That was enough sewing for today. I think I have a pretty workable shape going now. I need to get a couple more done for some girls that are getting abused. I would rather just order some but some of my girls are way bigger than a lot of hens so I'm afraid they'd be too small.
I was going to get some eggs ready to incubate today too but I just wore out. Maybe tomorrow I'll wake up with more energy.

Danz, sorry i missed you the other day.....it was a hurry up and get down there with no early indications I would be. Once i
i get bak from spring break vaca, I will prolly contact you as I am still looking for some older chicks.

This must be my year for colds. This is the second one, and I hadn't had a real cold for several years. This one was a gift from my grandson. I've tried vicks on my feet and sleep, but I'm still really tired and congested. I have stuff to do, and I don't have time to be sick. Ugh. I'm going to have to give in to it and just accept the fact that nothing will get done this week.

Awww….so sorry Sharol. Every time I get a cold I say "this is not a good time to be sick". Funny thing is, I never wake up and say "This would be a good day to get sick" LOL. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Sorry sharol, colds are the pits, hope you feel better soon.

I got rid of about 12 chicks yesterday, so that made me happy, they're really starting to suck down the starter feed. All of my hatching eggs are here, so my incubator will be pretty full now for the next 3 weeks.

Chicken rookie I am sure later in the spring I'll have more anyway.
Ralph thanks for the smile. I can so relate.
Sorry you are sick Sharol. Get well soon.
