The heated dog bowls look like they will be easier to maintain than the heated poultry fountains I saw in the summer at Valley Feed! It's such a simple solution but the easiest most obvious ones are usually the ones staring you straight in the face, jumping up and down, and your moving out to the side so you can see around it!

I have gobs of heated water bowls. In fact I use them year round and just take the heater part off the bottom in the summer. I like the fact they don't tip over. I do have a few that the heater part doesn't come off though. I also have a couple heated buckets I use for the dogs and the geese. But the chickens that free range use those as well. They jump up on the edge to drink.
Needless to say it will sure be nice to get the birds in the building and not have to worry about keeping water thawed though. If I ever get there.

We are trying the "No Crow" collar out on a 5 month old rooster now. He wasn't happy about it for the first day, but he gets along the same as ever now, except he doesn't crow as often or as loud. It was $20 and worth it if it keeps his crowing down.

I second that danz, I have a lot of roosters here. I get a kick out of them because one will start crowing & then they have crowing contests. They have their own distinctive crow & there is one that never really learned to crow that well & he says WooHoo, he makes me laugh. He is a lavender Orpington rooster.

It's already 46 right now & sunny here, I'll take it after the cold days we had lately. I've got to go out after while & change out water bowls. I've been just doing only what I had to when it was so cold but today I need to get it all done.

Me too. I live in a small farming and ranching community, on the edge of town. My neighbors are far enough away that they didn't even know I had chickens for the first year

I love listening to my Midas tell the world he is top bird!

I really don't notice the roosters that much unless it is really quiet. Then I wonder if they are okay. We have the crowing contests here too and different roosters have different crows. I actually know which one is crowing by the sound he makes. My favorite is a little free range Araucana. He sounds like a sissy.
It's not that noisy unless there is a stranger here or a predator nearby. Then it gets really loud but it's not the roosters so much then.
Speaking of that my geese can get pretty noisy. One of my dogs has appointed herself to goose watcher. She can be counted on to be near the geese or come running if they start yelling. The funny thing is that if the geese start honking she starts howling. so you hear and honk honk How-weee!
It's warmer out today but I haven't gone out to chore yet. My feed can't be made until tomorrow so I'm enjoying a little unexpected down time.

I have been using the collar for a couple of months on my 7 month old easter egger ( he was supposed to be a girl). I'd rather not use it, but I live in town and didn't want to upset our neighbors or lose him. He still crows, but the sound is reduced and he does all his other normal activities. Took some adjustment to get it right for rooster and me. So far, so good.

I honestly didn't know there was a no crow collar but then I never have had a need for one.I'm glad it's working for you though.

It wasn't too bad out there today, at least it was a lot nicer than it's been.

I took the doors off two pens today and built a new frame for the openings then mounted the doors on the opposite side. They used to open into the pen and when it would snow I couldn't ever get the door open. At least now I can still open them if there are a few inches of snow without having to dig out the shovel. It took longer than I planned because hinges and latches and everything had to be relocated.
I also got a load of feed today so that took time to get shoveled off. Seems my days just go way too fast.
