Consolidated Kansas

Danz, I usually do shopping on Fridays, but I had to be in town Tuesday, so I did my shopping then. I think everyone else did too. I had a hard time finding a parking place everywhere I went. But I wont be out during the Friday Blitz.

Ralph, you actually shop? Hard to find a guy that does that!!! I just got in from feeding and watering. That wind is brutal and it feels like it is getting colder. The turkeys decided they wanted out of the pen so I have to go put them up later. I sure hope they just go in on their own. Wishful thinking. Surely they must know tomorrow is Thanksgiving and they would be the safest in their own pen!!!!

Yes, Danz, I do all the shopping and driving. My wife's eyesight has got to the point she can not drive anymore. She can still see well enough to make a list and send me on a "scavenger hunt" once a week.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Is anyone besides me ready for spring? I do love my chickens so it is worth the effort to care for them even on the cold days. I just hate that I leave for work in the dark and get back home in the dark. That doesn't leave much therapy time with the flock.

Happy Thanksgiving! And yes, I'm ready for spring. Cold does reduce the time outside with my flock of 5. I love mine too!

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving Day, we got to spend ours in Missouri with my DH's family. They had a crowd as usual even though there were a couple of people missing this year. We still had enough food to feed another crowd left over. I did some online Black Friday shopping that morning after the sales got online & then we left in the middle of the afternoon to come home & stopped along the way to fight the crowd in a Walmart to get stocking stuff for the granddaughters & a couple of bigger gifts for the baby. It was pretty crazy but we managed it. The bargains are so good I don't mind fighting my way through but it is kind of aggravating trying to get around the store when they have half of it blocked off with yellow tape. I have a few more things to get online for my DH for Christmas to fill in & then I'm done except for the stocking candy for the kids. I really like to have my shopping done early so I don't have to fight the Christmas rush.

I lost June, my favorite hen on Thanksgiving. She somehow got in our dog pen and well, dogs play hard

I bought 4 EEs and 4 Buff Orpingtons on March 15. 6 months later and all of the BOs are laying like champs. A couple weeks after that June (an EE) starts giving me beautiful green eggs almost every day. As for the other 3 EEs, one turned out to be a roo and the other 2 STILL aren't laying! What's the deal?

I miss June and her pretty eggs.

Oh, I'm so sorry, it's really hard to lose a favorite. I lost one in Feb and I still haven't gotten over it
I love getting pretty green eggs too. I bought 3 EE pullets & 1 of them turned out to be a roo. I kept him and he wears a no-crow collar because we live in town and don't want to risk annoying the neighbors. One of the girls lays a minty green color and the other a speckled sage color. The first laid a month before the other started.
Again, sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the condolences, spree56. It drives me nuts when people are like "it's just a chicken," well yeah, but THESE chickens are my pets. These are the first EEs we've had and I love them! Beautiful eggs, beautiful birds. I don't mind that they aren't a true breed. Unlike my BOs, I can actually tell my EEs apart which makes it way easier to name them!

Welcome Henagerie. Sorry about your hen. A pet is a pet regardless of what kind of animal it is. I guess the awful truth is that unfortunately chickens just don't have a real long life span. It's sad cause they can be so endearing.
Trish there is no amount of money that would make me get out in those black Friday crowds. I normally do some black Friday shopping on line but I didn't even do that this year.
