Consolidated Kansas

Thanks for the warm welcome. I used to live in Nebraska and was active in there many years ago.

Kskingbee, thanks for the kind offer but I have splash/blue orps. I think my hens are to old to be fertile, or my rooster is shooting blanks. I was offered $35 for that silly rooster and if he is shooting blanks he is going to get a talking to! No really, the guy just wanted to put him in a 2 x 4 cage with 2 hens for rest of his days and I couldn't stomach the thought.
He doesn't have a name but has been dubbed "mr $35 rooster".

Good idea about posting him for stud. He is territorial too but I think would accept a girl. We had to fence our backyard for him when we moved to town, and he stays in it for the most part. When we first moved in a family of coons paraded by though telling him "na na boo boo, you can't get me"
It didn't go well for the coons! Ha

Went out next morn, dog had pulled himself over 5 foot fence, 2 dead coons along fence, (there were family of 5) and he was sitting proudly in the driveway guarding the joint. They don't taunt him anymore! :)

I don't know. I got some BLRWs before I got the BCMs and they aren't laying yet either. Well, I think I got one egg for one of them the other day. Unfortunately it was outside, froze and cracked so I gave it to London. I'm hoping warmer weather and more sunlight will get them going. Seems like I've been waiting quite a while.

Our egg production has shot up lately too, probably because of the new girls kicking in and the nice weather. We've gone from about four per day at the first of the month to sixteen yesterday. Hatching season is upon us!

I have several BBS English orpington boys if you need one. Not sure whether the boys are blue or black but I have them. You're a distance from me but if someone is headed this way we could work it out I'm sure.
I had turned a light on in my partridge brahma house a couple weeks ago and forgot to shut it off. Those girls are really cranking out the eggs. I don't normally use lights cause I figure the girls can use the rest. But I'm doing some test incubation to see if they are fertile since they are cranking out the eggs.

I am getting very few eggs, but most of my girls are past their prime. I'm hoping this warm, sunny spell will spur some production. I'm going to be reduced to buying eggs.

I guess you'll need to do some hatching soon, Sharol. I'd really be upset if I had to buy eggs but there were some times during the Christmas season I was running out. Of course my customers have had to go without but I keep saying I'm not in the egg business anyway. I'd much rather hatch!
I spent my evening with LizzyGSR last night. It was so great to finally meet her. I think if we'd had time we could have chatted all night.

Well with this warm spell everyone is getting chick fever & I just have a bad feeling it's not going to go like everyone wants it to this spring. I read on the weather channel online that for our state almost completely we're in the split that is going to have a much cooler spring, again. I hated that last year because it really delayed laying & thus hatching, not a good thing when you have people waiting on chicks. I just hope they're wrong & we get to have spring sooner than they're predicting.

I went out yesterday afternoon since we had 70s here & started paining my sheep shelter & got the first coat on 3 sides before dark. I won't be painting today however because it's raining here & a high of 45 today. I was hoping it would hold out till I got that done but no luck.

No rain here today, thank goodness. I am loving this weather but know it can't last. I have some late hatch peababies that I worry about during the real cold. I lost my pet showgirl too to the cold, he was only a year and half but never could stand the cold. I had to bring him in all time to warm up, but had emergency appendectomy and was hospitalized and he died during that super cold spell. Most my hens getting up there too.

Thanks everyone for rooster offer but I might see if I can't get some from my boy. My hens might be incapable as well, I don't have any young ORP hens either.

Took some pics today. I usually hang out in the peafowl forum but will check in here more often. My rooster is the son of one of the splash boys from chookschick.

My dog who has to be penned the day of meter reader cuz he is a little nervous of him and Mr. $35 Roo.

It was great to meet you too, danz! We definitely could've talked a lot longer if we hadn't had other obligations! Thanks for meeting with me!
