Consolidated Kansas

Trish I'm glad you are or were feeling somewhat better. Sorry you had to get up early. I just hate my routine to get changed. It throws my whole day off.
I have another very busy day ahead. I am really hoping I can get these birds sorted for this weekend and then everyone shows up as scheduled.
I candled a tray of eggs yesterday and had several that weren't fertile but many of them had potentially been frozen so I kind of expected it. I was really happy to see my barred rocks and sussex eggs are fertile. I wasn't sure if my barred rock rooster was able to perform since he broke his back but he is doing great. He looks a little bent in the middle and he high steps. It's kind of like his legs go to high in the air when he walks. I don't care as long as he can still do his job. He doesn't act in pain or anything. His son who was raised with them all will be breeding age in a few months so maybe I will let this guy just become a yard rooster then. I'm sure he'd be glad to free range.
I also had several babies hatch yesterday. I guess some will have to grow before I know colors for sure cause I was doing test hatches from my orpington pen where I hadn't separated colors. I also had some other orpington eggs in there from pens where they are separate and didn't have them marked. Time will tell I guess. I need to add to layers anyway so if I get some funky colors the girls will still be useful.

Trish44, hope all is well this afternoon after your morning therapy session. Thanks for your kind words.

chickendanz, is it as windy up there as it is here? It's just a bit breezy but that's fine. The temp is great. I'm headed out in a minute with the girls for a trip to Atwoods.

Is anybody else hatching? I'm getting lots of eggs and am very tempted to hatch a few chicks just for fun. The ducks aren't laying yet and I really should wait for them because I need a couple more girls... we'll see.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather and getting lots done!

My ducks aren't laying yet either but I saw some breeding again yesterday so I am thinking it will be soon. The wind is blowing crazy here. I thought I would get out and get some work done but it still feels really chilly out. I'm not happy cause one of my big customers I was counting on this weekend postponed until the 22nd. I am so sick of holding birds for people cause they rarely show up. So my plans to separate birds just took another twist. I needed them all to go this weekend. Dang it.
I still have to go out and sort and count and separate. But now that makes it harder to find pen space. I don't want to put the roosters that are being purchased in with the rest of the group cause they roosters will kill or injure each other.
Guess I'd better go figure out what I can do out there.

Deerfield, I'm really sore today. They took some pity on me today but warned me there will be more exercises added next week. Good grief I just had surgery 4 days ago. I wonder if other people can really do all the repetitions of exercises they give them. I already have 6 different exercises I'm supposed to do 10 of each 3 times a day. Even with pain pills that's too much right now. Then if you can't do those plus more every week they tell you they can't justify it to insurance for you to come. It's like you're on some crazy treadmill like a gerbil. I have to do things at my pace or my body rebels with Fibromyalgia so these new gals are going to have to learn that.

I had to build two more pens today. I feel like I've been beaten with a stick. Then I had to catch a bunch of roosters and get them moved to one of the pens I put up. I did manage to get the chocolate orps separated today and as soon as those roosters are gone tomorrow I can use that pen for another breeding group. I just don't have a house for those birds and not sure what I can come up with on short notice. The buyer that postponed for a while was very convincing he was definitely going to buy these birds he wanted so I guess I'll take the chance and hold them for a couple weeks.
Somehow I pulled something in my back and now I have a pain in my side and I can't bend at all. I hope it's just one of those temporary things. I've way too much to do to not be able to bend.

I'm feeling a little better this morning than I did yesterday, it just wasn't a good day. I hope to be able to at least step outside & enjoy some sun for a bit today. I haven't been outside the house since surgery except to go to PT.

Boy I know Danz frustration! We had posted some turkeys on Kansas Farm Animal FB page, a guy said he would take them. Well, he stood us up the first Saturday and we held them another week, passed up other people that wanted them, and now he ***** backward on us again. Too busy to come get them and doesn't want them at all now.

I'm sorry KsKingBee, I wish people would just do what they say they will. It's just rude to have people hold birds & then back out. It costs to feed them & you could have sold them to someone else.

My husband got the stuff for my extra breeding pens today. Hopefully soon (DH often takes some time on his projects, not LOL) I may have roosts, boxes, & pens rather than a lovely pile of material!!
