Consolidated Kansas

Zig I think one of the successes to fermented feed is to mix half and use half every day. Mine took on a very pleasing scent and consistency just using and then adding more feed and water each day. When I stirred I always made sure I stirred while running water and got all the stuff from the bottom well mixed with the new stuff. I wish I had fewer chickens and could still handle all that weight because it was really awesome feed and my birds were so shiny. Another thing I told Trish about in mixing smaller amounts that worked well for me but mixing more than a 5 gallon bucket is to buy a rubbermaid bin. and mix it in that. It's not nearly as messy and easier to stir. You can loosely set the lid on without closing it which keeps nats or flies out and still lets it breath. Sure beats maintaining two buckets.

Not sure I'm posting in the correct place, lol, but here I am.
Was over on a thread in a different spot for "Kansans" where I noticed the combined effort for us Oz-peeps directed here. :-D

I'm just outside Maize (Wichita suburb). As a New Egg, I was thinking it'd be great to connect with local BYC'ers.

So, howdy y'all! ;-)

Hey, welcome to Consolidated Kansas. There are lots of members in your area. Good to have you aboard. What sorts of poultry do you have?

Oooh. Sound like lovely yard art. I have a bit of a variety too, though not as many total. (and no ducks)

Welcome to the forum. I adore you already. Anyone who has lots of poultry is okay in my book. There are a ton of people down your way. People come and go but there are some who are here regularly. It can be kind of seasonal. People post a bunch then drop off and then come back and post a bunch again. It's fairly quiet right now.

I had quite a busy day yesterday and reduced quite a few numbers in the process. I didn't really make much money but was glad to move some birds. I also tentively sold 6 of my yearling peafowl for a prayer but they were sold as a group so that helps me out. The buyers have to get another pen built for them but will be back soon to get them with the money. I know they will show because they are friends and also friends of one of my best buddies as well.
He plans to come back and buy several more birds as well when they come back. We just ran out of time to go through all that I had for sale because we were all busy telling stories and stuff and then another customer came and used a lot of time. He was one of those use two hours and spend $15 types.
All the hours on my feet about did me in though. I was awake all night with leg cramps. Have I mentioned I hate being old?

Howdy and welcome!

I'm between Derby and Rose Hill... you have quite a flock! I have Buff, Light, Speckled and Silver Sussex plus a couple White Rock hens, an EE, 2 Jubilee Orpingtons, a couple Alohas, some mixes of Buff Sussex/Aloha or Speckled Sussex. Then I have 3 adult Anconas, a one of a kind pewter colored duck, and a group of 11 Silver Appleyards growing out very quickly. They keep me out of mischief, for the most part.

Ha! Ha! Deerfield. I don't think anything could keep you out of mischief.

Or I would hope not...that's one of the great things I love about you!!!
I've been out putting up a kennel outside my old brooder house. I hate to make it all perfect cause I don't want it or that brooder house to stay there. I just want to give the little kids a little more room until I can get some better pens set up again.

Well, Danz, I don't know how you are able to tolerate the humidity! It's brutal out there. We mulched three strawberry raised beds and wow! Sweat city. We also cleaned out the brooder and replaced all the bedding. I got some new lawn chairs ordered and even the cheap seats are expensive. I couldn't believe that but, oh well.
