Consolidated Kansas

Looking good Sharol!! The stain or paint will take on a more subtle hue in time. Most of those an wood look colors really look bright and too orangy when you put them on. I used an opaque stain on a deck years ago and was in horror until a little sunshine and dirt made it look really good.
Looks like Red is checking it out.
I had a guy come do an estimate to set corner posts last evening and I couldn't believe what he charged. The people that put in my front fence did the complete job and were a lot cheaper. So I called them last night and they are booked up until the first of the year. For the price this guy is charging he should buy the materials and install the fence not just a few posts. I need it done but I don't know that I can afford it in anyway. I just don't know what to do. These local guys just charge insane prices for what they do cause they don't have competition. If it weren't harvest season I might be able to find someone else.
@spree56 you have no idea how busy I am these days!! It's insane.
Yesterday I had some people come from Missouri. I got a new buff cockerel for my buff orps. He's not real full yet but he's young and he's tall so he should be fine. At least now I have a bird that I can use for breeding when I am ready to hatch again.
I bought back a little pullet I had sold to him he no longer wanted and am giving it as a gift to a little 9 year old who lost her green egg layer she got from me. She is going to be so happy!!!
I had 6 of last years peafowl picked up. The other couple that is with him are friends as well. I got no money but they are going to pay it in two installments. I was just needing them out of here so I could proceed with other projects. The big ole trailer is finally empty. No birds!!! Yay! I think I am going to open the doors a few days and let the cats get busy on the mouse population in there. Then hopefully I'll get my other things out of there and be able to haul this thing back on the property where I can start parting it out. It will be so wonderful to have an open view again. Of course nothing happens in a timely manner here so it might be a while before it's moved. If it was up to me it would be gone today.

Hi, everyone! Does anyone know of some breeders or hatcheries in Kansas that have bantam Ameraucanas? I'm desperately seeking one. I'd prefer blue wheaten or splash, but at this point, I'd probably consider any, as long as it's a pure bantam Ameraucana and it's healthy.

Thank you so much in advance!

I'm sorry I don't. There are several Kansas poultry facebook pages you could look at or place an add looking for one.
At any rate welcome to the forum. Feel free to jump in and tell us about yourself.

Your best bet would be to look at the breeder directory on the Ameraucana Breeder's Club site online & see who raises bantams & then contact them. That's how I get referrals to me. I don't raise bantam Ameraucanas, mine are LF. You could also go on the FB swaps & put up a wanted ad as danz said & see if you get replies. Welcome to our thread, tell us about your birds & yourself.

Thank you! There were two breeders listed in Kansas, and I'm not sure whether either raises bantams yet. I emailed the recognized breeders on the directory that raise bantams and ship, but so far no replies. I'll search Facebook for the forums. I didn't think about that. Thank you!

I don't know if you saw this on the Ameraucanas club. They have silver bantam Ameraucanas.

I use a headed dog bowl, but have you ever heard of this from,
poultrykeeper.com
Food grade Glycerine, also known as Glycerol or Glycerin (simply different names for the same thing) as found in the home baking section of your supermarket or on-line can be added to water to stop the water from freezing. Experiment with the quantity – A few drops usually protects a 6 litre container below freezing but if the temperature falls further, you may need to add an extra drop or two.

Glycerine will only work to a certain temperature. It will keep the surface where it sits from freezing. Molasses will work as well and will let the water turn to mush but not freeze solid. The worst thing to both these methods is that they can cause diarrhea in the birds.
I have used heated dog bowls or bird bath heaters for years. They work well most of the time. If you have a water bowl you can also float little heavier weight balls on the surface if they are outside and the wind will move them around and keep the water from freezing solid. This won't work inside cause the balls won't be moving.
I'm hoping to not deal with this too much this year. Hopefully when/if we get out heater installed we shouldn't have to worry about the water in the building freezing. I'll just have to deal with the outside pens. Hopefully there won't be many.
Yesterday I wired in my new peacock house/pen outlets and hooked them to the existing peacock pens outlets. They allow me to plug in the heated water bowls for them. I was going to work on the plumbing as well but since the arthritis in my hands was so irritated I couldn't get the cap off the plastic pipe cleaner and cement containers. I hope to finish that today as well as hang the netting over the top of the pens. Maybe with a little luck the peafowl will get moved out there in the next day or two. I am so ready. I have a bunch of this year's birds that need the space. Plus then I can see what I need to sell. It will also empty one more pen I really need.
I really wanted to run underground water lines out there and also electric lines but it will have to wait for next year at least. It seems like I work non stop but never get things done.
We have been overrun with possums lately. I was so proud of my newest pyr who is just learning how to be a LGD. (She had been a house dog.) She got a possum all by herself last night that was trying to get in the pheasant pen. I don't think he would have made it but there are plenty of other places he could get in. Heaven knows how many we have shot. You'd think you'd get to the end of them eventually.
My other two dogs have been penned for a while cause one was in heat. My male just can't figure out how to breed and my AI was unsuccessful. He's a great little LGD but it looks like I need to find a new breeding male. I hate to go through the whole acclimation process again. I don't want to start with a puppy either. Grrrr!
I have a few eggs due to hatch today and there aren't any pips yet. I wonder what is going on there.

The coyotes sure are ramping up for cold weather right now. I heard a whole band of them out in my neighbor's field the other night howling, right on the other side of our fence. I did lose one Sebbie goose recently too that must have wandered too close to something, it was one of my youngest ones. There are places on our property where there is a lot of tree cover & it's a perfect spot for something to lay in wait. Danz I just hate possums, they're so ugly & so destructive to the birds. My GPs got one awhile back & I had told Tom to go pick it up out of the yard & he said before he got it picked up the chickens ate it. All that was left was the bones, he was just shocked that chickens would do that. They're scavengers though so it doesn't surprise me in the least.

I sure am enjoying the cooler weather to get work done right now. I'm in no way ready for winter, but I do like the weather right now.

I just got in from feeding and watering. I spent my entire afternoon in the basement doing some much needed cleaning. However I only got maybe a forth of it done. That's not very comforting. I have a long ways to go. We just never go down there except to move stuff down to get it out of the way. It's so packed with stuff and so filthy. Last fall we had a hoard of mice come in and I still have gobs to clean from that. Since we have all these cats now I don't see any signs of mice around the house. However it is fall, and they do like to move in this time of year.
So I didn't get any work done on my pen. I guess there's always tomorrow.
