Do you have a picture of your pen's ?

I have several, This one is actually 2, 30"wide x 8'long x 2' tall, under one roof.

This one is just one 30' x 8' x 24" tall. But rabbit hutches work just fine....

ETA, coturnix get somewhat lesser quarters....

Not sure i could get away with that, but I will have too clean house for year's ( whispers quietly so wife doesn't hear) " We all know that won't happen' . I could clean the house 4 times in one day she gets out the white glove

Well I am gonna have to sweet talk her into letting me build one of those. Any ladies got any advice

Well John mine got a bit out of hand, but thanks. You really only a rabbit hutch type pen. You never said what kinda quail you had in mind. It makes a difference in size... New world quail need more room. Bill

Bob whites, valley, california, mountain are "new world" quail. They are a bit harder to raise, and need more room. Cotrunix are the most common old world quail and they act alot like chickens.These are the quail Daren has... They are very friendly, lay at about 6 weeks of age, butcher size in 8 weeks. The only draw back is they have no white meat, so they dont eat as good as a bob. Button quail is another story too. Kinda in the finch category. Bill

Ok I do realize I was an Idote here Darin is Ozawkie bantums My spelling is a little off always so scroll back and you will find him. currently he is worshiping darth vador. Still he loves game birds and will talk your ears off!!

Darin is Ozawkie Bantams by the way. You can build a simple pen using 2X2's and hardware cloth that will work for any small game bird. It is nice to have a covered area so they can get out of weather. Quail are more prolific, but ducks and pheasants are also a consideration and bring more $$ per bird.
It depends on what you want to do with them. Are you wanting to eat them or free release them?
I'm a female. Believe me when you hatch one of those babies, regardless of what kind, and your wife sees it she will be hooked. That maternal instinct just kicks in when we see a baby anything.

Dang it I can't sleep

Back was killing me today and although the pills helped they put me back in bed all mid-day!

And... now my mind's wondering about building one of those cool enclosures like Bill's (not much space, more pets, why not

)! Plus I guess it'll give me more to read during the next 5 hours until my boy gets up for school! Blah to sleepless nights, atleast the posts here have given me something more to do! Research time... Then it sounds like I need to track down some expert advice from Darin!

Ohh on another note has anyone tried tinkering with making an auto chicken door from parts available at harbor freight or radio shack? Want to find something affordable... Something just about everyone could afford (those retail one's are ridiculous)
