Consolidated Kansas

LOL!  That's not likely to happen any time soon!  He thinks they're too noisy, and I've already got one bird he resents letting me have (my Chinese Goose).   Next on my list for "chicken math" would probably be a few more geese (NOT chinese) and maybe a couple of turkeys.
Haha. He sounds exactly like my husband. Seems like I raise a few goslings every spring anyway lol. Now we have 9 guineas. So he lost that fight.

I thought I'd share a couple of pictures of my most unusual hen(pullet). She is a Mottled English Orpington from one of Danz's eggs. We are calling her Oreo for obvious reasons.
She is about 17 weeks old, so not laying yet. But we think she is a beauty.

She is in the front with the Jubilees, Lavendars, Blacks, and one White EO behind her. Talk about yard art!!

My blue Orpington Cockerel (about 17 weeks) is going to have to have a new home. The first picture is a little fuzzy, but it is the only side view I got.

I can't speak to the quality of the coloring or conformation. I just don't know enough. @ChickenDanz can chime in and comment on that. He is a Blue? Right?

If anyone needs a blue English Orpington cockerel in their breeding program, please get in touch. I'd love for this guy to have a flock of his own, and he and the Jubilee Roo I'm keeping from the older hatch aren't getting along very well. He is friendly for the most part and a little shy. He isn't the slightest bit human aggressive, and if I could use a second cockerel, I'd keep him in a flash.

Sharol she's beautiful. I wish I had a pullet or hen that looked that good. I lost my one nicely mottled hen last fall. Now I have one that is mostly black and one that is mostly white. Not a good mottling example in either one (too much in one and not enough in the other), but they both produce good offspring. I've got a few chicks but waiting to see what sex they are and how they look. The hen that is mostly white started out mostly black with some white and over time has lost more and more black. At least I know she has a really strong mottling gene. I also thought she was a cockerel for a long time. I almost sold her as one. Thank heavens I didn't.
Yep he's a blue. Still has a lot of filling out to do but he's got great coloring. I know of someone who would love to have him if you were able to ship. Not sure he would want to pay for that though since for a big bird it gets really pricy. Just in case I'll send you some info on facebook.
I've got another busy day on the schedule. I have to go get some chick starter which is a two hour trip. Then go to town and pick up some medications. That plus my normal activity. I have laundry and housework to do as well sometime in there. I honestly hate winter. It makes every thing seem like a major effort.

Oh wow, Sharol! She's a beauty! I really wish I were close enough to Danz to get some birds from her!

Yes. It is a real bonus for me to be 40 miles or so from her. I have hatched several batches of her eggs with wonderful results.

My little Breda Fowl pullets (about 28 weeks) are both laying as of Sunday. The second one lays eggs a tiny bit tan rather than the pure white of the other one so I can tell them apart, and all 4 of the laying age English Orps are laying now, so I'm actually getting some eggs -- small eggs, but really nice. I love hatching eggs cause they are always a surprise package. The Araucanas were all laying until two of them went broody on me. I gave in and gave them some eggs last Saturday so we will see how that turns out. (Breda and orp eggs from pullets hatched from Danz's eggs).

That pullet is a beauty, she has really nice mottling. I have two hens that are really nicely mottled like that & one that is black but is a split. My rooster isn't very mottled but carries the mottling gene. That blue Orp cockerel is gorgeous, I wish I had a place for him but I don't other than in my laying flock & this guy really needs to go to a breeder, he is too pretty. I don't have blue & I don't need any more colors, lol. I just posted an album of some of my birds on FB & those of you that are friends on there can see them. There are too many to post here. People have been asking me to get pics of my birds so I finally got some taken yesterday. It's extremely difficult to photograph chickens when they won't stand still. You just keep taking some & hope a couple might turn out. They never look as good in the photo as in person though.

I got my main coop cleaned out yesterday, that was quite an accomplishment with a cold, ugh. I had to get it done before my surgery because my DH won't do it & I knew it would not wait for two more months so I just got it done. It about did me in, but at least they have a clean coop now & fresh shavings to last the next two months while I'm unable to go out there. I'm going to miss seeing my birds & animals so much!

Well, things didn't exactly go as planned today. We were rear-ended pretty hard today. It totaled my van (and I REALLY liked that van - go figure), and it sounds like it demolished the other car. I'm stiff and quite sore but otherwise okay. Baby and Ethan are both fine as well. My DH wasn't in the car. Off to bed to get some sleep!

Lizzy, that is awful. Are you sure you are ok? Sometime those sharp jerks can really mess you up. Take care and go to the doctor if you aren't 100% tomorrow. Glad the kids are ok. Sorry about the van, too. I'll be thinking of you.
