Consolidated Kansas

LOL I expect your pups will soon be as big as Gigi. Her largest puppy is weighing in at just over 7 ounces. They are all gaining, and she is eating me out of house and home. YEAH!!! Glad your pups are doing well. You must have gotten all the girls. Gigi has 4 boys.

It is so hard to even imagine something as small as 7 oz!!! We need pictures.

Speaking of which, here are pics of the new lamb.

Aww. That baby is adorable.

This is sweet little Gigi -- maybe 9 lbs -- with her four boyz. They had to shave part of her belly to do the C section/spay.

Welcome to the group. I'm probably an hour or so from you to the southwest. Jump in and tell us about yourself. We discuss all kinds of things here. We'd love to hear about you and your chickens or your plans to have chickens.
I'm on the fence today about what to do. Looks like we have rain in the forecast for the next 7 days. Today and tomorrow are our only chances of decent days. I really want to go to a sale but know I need the time here. And I sure don't want to spend more money but it could happen. Decisions decisions.
I need to rig up some housing and sort some more birds. It's time to do something with some of the extra cockerels around here. It sure seems I have an overabundance of boys this year.

Welcome to the KS thread! Tell us about your birds if you have any yet. We have people from all over on here, mostly KS though. We have some people who pop in once in awhile who used to live here, old friends. It looks like you're closer to KC. I'm all the way down closer to the OK border south of Wichita.

danz I hear you on the roosters, I have several that need to go here. I just need to round them up & get pics of them so I can put an ad up. I'm hoping there are some people who have lost a rooster here & there that would take some. They're going to be really nice roosters, breeder quality so someone would get a great deal if they take them. I just have no use for any more roosters here.

sharol the pups & Gigi look like they're doing well, that's good to hear after what happened.

I am so sick of this weather just like everyone else. I need some sunshine for sure! Even my chickens aren't laying that well, I think they're sick of all the cloudy wet days too. I know we'll be wishing in July/August that we had some of this but really it's enough for now.

Since HEChicken shared her new lamb I have to share mine too. Here is my ewe & the new ewe lamb their first day out in the field. The lamb is pretty small but seems to be doing fine. She is the first ewe lamb born this year, all of the others were rams.

Awww - it will be fun to watch them growing up.

Welcome!

Well initially I looked and thought she had three girls but to my disappointment when I got a better look later there are two boys and a girl. Huge disappointment cause I had one picked out for myself and a buyer for two others.
I didn't realize she had only 3 pups - that's kind of a small litter for a GP isn't it? Sorry about the disappointment when it comes to genders. Next time you have people wanting boys, you'll get all girls - that's the way it goes.

Well, my little turkey didn't make it. I had some hope when it seemed to perk up and was drinking voluntarily but it never ate voluntarily and fought the force-feeding so its death wasn't a huge surprise. Oh well - I still have a large number of healthy poults so - survival of the fittest.

I have to brag on my little cairn terrier, Dizzy, for a moment. When I went looking for a small companion dog a couple of years ago, I was drawn to terriers but everyone warned me off them, saying they will never be good with poultry - including people on a forum dedicated to cairn terriers! However I decided to take the risk anyway and from the day he arrived here, he has accompanied me to do chicken chores and never once given me a reason to be concerned. He runs among the birds and totally ignores them - and they are not concerned about this presence either. Right now I have a mama turkey in the hoop coop with her poults and from day day one, Dizzy has been absolutely fascinated by them. He will sit outside the hoop coop for hours watching those babies. I started to have concern that his interest was something less than altruistic because I've never seen him this focused on birds before. Last night I was doing chores, came around the corner and saw that Dizzy was standing outside the hoop coop staring at something on the ground. It was one of the poults that had somehow escaped the hoop coop. Dizzy was not only NOT trying to grab it, he seemed to be standing guard over it until I could rescue it. I put down what I was carrying and bent to pick it up but being a mama-raised bird, it of course ran screaming from me - the big, bad predator - and its run took it directly towards Dizzy who pounced and grabbed. I screamed "no" but I should have known to trust him. He wasn't grabbing it to hurt it - he was trying to help me out. He had it very gently pinned and as soon as I reached to take it, he released his hold on it. It was completely unharmed - not even wet. I told Dizzy what a good job he did and he was so pleased to have been of help. I feel like I can relax about his interest in them now. If his goal had been to eat them, that poult would have been dead before I even knew it had escaped the hoop coop.

HEChicken that's great about Dizzy, I'm glad he's doing well with the poultry. I know my Yorkie sure has a prey drive when it comes to especially chicks. I don't think she would bother the big hens because they're bigger than her, lol.

Isn't she your first ewe lamb ever? IIRC, you had 2 rams last year and 4 so far this year. Considering why you are raising them, you've been really lucky.

You need to get your scale set up - she doesn't look that small to me. It might be that she just looks small to you next to your older lambs. My lamb that was born yesterday still looks tiny to me, but his birth weight is actually above average.
