Consolidated Kansas

I had a Mottle Java hen that went broody, so I put some guinea eggs under her. She must have not been completely broody, because last Wednesday she hatched out two Java chicks, and abandoned the nest. As I have all my breeding pens equipped with individual portable nest, I removed the nest from her pen, with the intention of putting the eggs under another broody hen. But I completely forgot about it, and I remembered the eggs two days later. I decided to float-test the eggs in some warm water. As six of the eggs did not float, I plugged in a small incubator and today 5 guineas hatched. I put them with a Salmon Favorelle hen, and her 8 guinea keets,.and the two Mottle Java chicks. They were due to hatch today, according to my calendar.

Omg we are having a party in our coop today Sapphire my blue splash decided she wanted to hatch a clutch do I have her 7 eggs and on Monday 2 had clear chicks in them though neither I or my neighbor could see into the 5 Blue/Green eggs so now the wait is on to see who decides to hatch and jpin our little Bluffybutt who we saw today while putting up the chick pen around Splashes next box.

That chick looks like she will be a splash as well. Good luck on the others.'

Ralph that's crazy about that hen & the guineas, yeah they look ready to be away from the hen & I'll bet she's ready. Those guineas are crazy little things & the adults are so mean. I've been trying to integrate two new females into my breeding pen & the first time I put this one in they tore her feathers off her back. I had to take her out the same day & spray blue kote on her & I'll have to try again in a week or so. It's harder to integrate new birds in with the guineas than it is with chickens.

Dani4Hedgies congrats on the chick, I hope the rest of the hatch goes well.

We had quite a rainstorm last night here. There were all kinds of alarms going off during the middle of the night about flooding.

I've been trying to get as many birds integrated into their own pens & the main coop as I can. Last night I moved 5 young Silver Penciled Rocks into the main coop so the next few days that will be fun getting them to go back there. They hang out by the pen they grew up in so I end up having to go chase them down every night & carry them up to the coop. The last two I took there still aren't completely going in at night. Last night I chased the SS in but the Rhodebar pullet I had to go down & retrieve. I'll be glad when all of the new ones are integrated & go in by themselves.

Trish,
Thanks this morning Sapphire had 3 little fluffybutts running around her but she is still gluded to her nest so will have to wait and see if any more babies hatch. Sorry to hear about all the alarms and stubborn young chickens I remember those days.
