Consolidated Kansas

I just can't do the butchering any more with the arthritis I have in my fingers. My fingers on my right hand don't bend all the way over so it's hard to grip anything.

Hello everyone. I have a question. Does anyone have an incubator that I can borrow to hatch some eggs? My broody is not so broody anymore.... I live just outside Topeka and I am willing to drive to come get it. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you,
Ricki

Ricki, I have an old styro one you could use. Not the greatest but something anyway.

I am wondering if you ever get ready? It seems there's always something new popping up. I finally got my insulated stock tank cover made. Tonight will be the test to see if it works. Of course that is for the cattle. I found out today my third heifer will be coming home at the first of the year so that means I have just a couple weeks to get new pen area set up and more shelter or wind break of some kind.

Yes Danz it seems like there is always something. I had thought I had all of my pens winterized & then realized I had to put up more plastic on the pen where I was putting chicks I was integrating outside. That turned into much more of a project than I had thought too & I had to go buy more plastic. I got it done though & put the chicks in there before it got colder so they have been acclimating. I also put an igloo dog house in there so they can huddle in there when it gets colder, which tomorrow it's going to be. I hope they're smart enough to go in there. They are all feathered out though so they should be OK. It just makes me more nervous putting chicks outside this time of year. That's why I normally don't hatch this time of year but my little Japanese Ohiki bantam hen had other ideas. I will be glad to have the other pullets she produced though next spring. The first batch she hatched earlier in the year were almost all roosters except for one. This hatch was 4 pullets & 2 roosters, so I was really happy. They're turning out to be really pretty too. Now I will have to decide which rooster I'm keeping of those two.

I finally got some straw yesterday. I bought big round bales but was only able to get one bale of good straw. I got two other bales of some that has some other stuff in it. (Second cutting.) I wanted the good for the cattle but the other will work well for the bird bedding and such. I had planned to get all good straw but someone had purchased three semi loads of it right before me. My lousy timing. I didn't get it off loaded off the truck either so it's going to have to wait a day or so. I also put some wind barrier up on a hoop coop where the broody hens have their chicks. They have all been outside since they hatched but with their Moms. I had someone planning to buy several but atypical to people I had to message them to see why they didn't show and got the old song and dance about unexpected breakdowns. I was really hoping to make some $$$.

I put all of the straw I had in the hay shed out in my pens but it still didn't seem like enough. Wouldn't it be nice if people actually followed through on what they say they're going to do & were honest? It seems like people any more just don't care how much they inconvenience others.

@Dani4Hedgies , you interested or know someone?

Sorry everyone when everything got changed I stopped getting messages and life has been crazy so this is the first time I have been able to actually to get online and check things out and get caught up. Thanks Danz for the referral and had I seen this I would have been happy too since that is one of the services we offer in our new chicken business. tatooedchicks As to the extra bantam roo I'm always on the look out for those so if you still have it please let me know.
