You must be a turkey hunter, too. For me, it's second only to deer bow season. Lately I haven't hunted turkeys. I'm usually the one calling for the kids when they hunt. That's just as good as hunting them yourself.

The kids used to go out and see what kinds of weird noises they could make that would cause the turkeys to gobble. Just about any loud noise could elicit a gobble in reply. The funniest one was when my son burped REALLY loud and a tom gobbled back at him. We all just about fell on the ground laughing.

Last year we accidentally shot a hen, who was probably looking to nest in the same spot our current lady is sitting. She totally fooled us with that beard of hers. After that, we swore we wouldn't shoot any more turkeys on our own property. By the time they mosey up our little creek, the season is nearly over anyway. I still love talking to them, though!

bnjmik - What kind of wire do you have over your run? Looks like it was fairly flexable for that use. I need to get something over my grass run, where I let my chickens run in the evenings. I thought about deer netting but think it might be too flimsy for my 30'x50' run, and predator birds might get tangled. Have to get something up soon.

I'm not Katy, but I buy poly netting that will last almost forever. It comes in 1 inch and two inch openings. Of course the 1 inch is more expensive. The problem with the two inch is that small birds can get in and of course that means eating your feed, pooping, and possibly spreading some disease. But it also lets snow and such go through easier so it won't break as easily. I use two inch on my chicken runs and 1 inch on my game birds. You can buy it in different strengths as well. I have searched and the cheapest place to buy it is to order it through 3T.

I tried plastic netting and it isn't worth the effort to put it up unless you plan to replace it again in the near future. But then that is my opinion.
