Today has been one of those LONG days where everything seems to go wrong. After a long afternoon/evening in town, I got home to discover that my Great Pyrenees had chewed up the box that FedEx delivered to my front step today. She had also chewed up several things that were inside the box, ironically she left alone the chew toys that I had bought for her that were also in the box. :barnie:he I guess I'll have to figure something out for an alternate place for the delivery people to leave our boxes. :he Another piece of irony: I was just gushing about how much I have fallen in love with the GP breed not all that long ago. Go figure! She's still an incredibly sweet dog, and I still love her, but sheeesh! Note: there was nothing edible in the box (unless you count silicon, beeswax or glycerin as edible... they are some of the things in the box that she chewed on)

So, has anyone else had to learn the hard way about a GP and their chewing habits? Tell me your stories! Surely, I'm not the only one that's had a GP chew things they really shouldn't!

Chicken math has taken over! I need either another coop or a bigger one.
:D:celebrate I'm not the only one! I have known Danz for years now, but I made my first trip to her place last week (roughly 7 or 8 hour drive for me). I had spoken for 10 birds but of course came home with more than I planned. I've now got 7 adult Speckled Sussex, 6 Speckled Sussex Chicks, 1 Mottled Orpington, 1 Gold Laced Orpington, and 1 "Partridge Orpington with no Partridge" as Danz calls that last one. ;) Apparently, Danz wasn't very happy with the color on that bird, but she is the sweetest bird! My youngest (not quite two) has claimed the bird and regularly asks to hold her. They are the cutest pair! The bird, whom we've named Peaches, "talks" to my DD and makes happy chick noises while she's being held. :love The picture below is the first day they met. My DD was giving Peaches a hug.

LOL! We have a fence around our yard so that the dogs can't go visit the neighbors, but Jaz still finds random things to "collect" and/or chew on. We've definitely gotta watch what we leave outside! Ironically, she leaves the kids' toys alone, but when my oldest left a travel cup out, Jaz took it upon herself to chew it up.

GPs are pack rats. Mine manage to move the burn pile all over the yard.

That sounds like quite the feat! GPs are talented dogs but also Oh SO SWEET!

I've been so busy I haven't had a moment to catch up on messages. It's been so crazy around here. Let me tell each of you that @lizzyGSR 's kids are just adorable and so well behaved. Her son talks a mile a minute but also talks in very adult terms. The two of them were so cute and both helped me feed the birds.
I love my solitary days without people but having them here was just awesome!
Yesterday was one of those days I didn't plan to have people here and had a steady stream of them through out the day. Plus I had to ship off two boxes of birds. Chicken chicks in one and turkeys in another. I had shipped two boxes of goslings the day before and I am really upset. They arrived and the post office couldn't contact the owner so they tried to deliver them without success. All I can get is a voicemail and I am very worried the geese won't survive because they've already been in the mail system 2 days. It angers me because I stress that they must be able to be reached by me and the post office at the number they give me. I worry about the birds but if she has losses I can't refund due to her not being available.

Ugh Danz that's awful about the goslings! Why would someone order them if they weren't going to be watching for them?

I've got 3 chick orders going out in the next few days. I'm only putting guinea & duck eggs in the incubator now because this will finish off the orders for chicks.

Well thank goodness they all made it there alive. She said it was just a little hickup. I don't consider that a hickup! I am certainly going to include a note with all orders againj that they must be able to be reached at the number they give at any time. I can't honestly stand stressing about them or anything else I ship. I watch the tracking and send notes to people if they show they've arrived and not picked them up but this was ridiculous.

Wow I'm glad they made it OK. I would have been a wreck worrying about them myself as well. That really is why I don't ship more chicks. I could make more money but it's just nerve wracking worrying about whether they will make it to their destination alive.
