I am currently build a chicken tractor, I cut the wood outside, bring the cut wood inside, build the sides and take it back out side where I will assemble it. Tractor size is 6' x 10' and 2' tall. the roost is 4' x 6' and the run is 6' x 6'.

Okay, here is what I have done, so far. All the sides are up and look great and level! Unfortunately.. my posts must have been out of my 8X8 by a 1/4 of an inch... because after I screwed in all the hangers a bit ago, the 2X4's don't fit in!! They are about 1/4 inch too long! Which means I'm going to be shaving off 7 boards.

Well, I'm done for this morning. It's too hot and I've probably sweat off about 5 lbs.

BUT on the up side, once I get them cut this evening, I'm ready to lay down the floor!!

HAWKEYE!!!! Before you shave those boards off check your overall dimensions (outside of frame to outside of frame) It should be a specific measurement. It could be that you've got a little bit of warp in your outer frame boards.

Loralee, Hydrate! hydrate! hydrate! Don't over do it out there. They said on the news last night this was going to be the hottest day yet.
I just got back in from 2 hours of feeding and watering. I am hot but I actually don't feel as bad as I have been cause at least the wind is blowing.
I have to get a shower and go get my driver's license renewed. I hate even bothering to go anywhere when I know I will be drenched in sweat. That will be nice to carry a sweat drenched picture around on my DL for the next 8 years. I have a black car with a dark grey interior. The AC doesn't have a chance to keep up.

thanks guys! I'll leave the boards alone for now and see if any of the outside boards are warped. Maybe use a hammer to 'finesse' the 2X4's down into those hangers? For now, I'm done. Too tired and too hot. I drank like a gallon of water when I came inside. But I'm so happy to see some kind of progress! I'm not the kind to sit around waiting for stuff. I'll think about the boards and look at it again this evening. They do look like they are soooo close, right? What a PITA. hehe!

chicken danz, I hope your picture looks great! Maybe you can fluff up a bit before you get your picture taken.

Good luck!

After looking at your picture again, it looks like even the floor joists closest to the frame wouldn't even go in. Is that right? If so, then yes, your boards are probably a little too long and will need to be trimmed. You wouldn't want to force them in. Just trim them all to the same length that fits.

Hubby and I just came in from outside. I am SO ready for a break in this heat.

You can use a string to see if your boards are warped. If you're going to make a mistake in cutting you're wood its much better to cut it then to long then to to cut then to short.

@Katy I have been ready for winter for some time now.

What the heck is going with people, is the heat getting to them. I-70 Closed For Second Time This Week a man barricaded himself in an RV.

yeah, I tried the 2X4 in several of the hangers and they were all exactly the same amount off- 1/4 of an inch. I guess I learn to shave.

It's 109 here too. I hope it doesn't go up anymore, this is crazy. Okay- so what? A guy barricaded himself in an RV? What does that mean? Was he driving it and then pulled over and refused to get out? People are nuts anyway - heat or no heat. ha!
