Consolidated Kansas

I'm waaaay behind on feed and have had to use the commercial crud the last week because I haven't gotten out to Perry. I can email you the recipe so you can go on your own or you can ask Mary (at Perry Milling Co.) if she has it on file still- I know others use the recipe when they're out, so she may still have it, even though I bring my own printout whenever I go. It's a spreadsheet and you can punch in the amount you want and it figures up how much of each seed they should pull, etc. It has the prices from the last time I was there inserted, so it'll give you an approximate cost per bag.

You can get the Ultra Kibble at TSC in Lawrence. I WILL be going to get some feed on Friday- sister has surgery tomorrow, so I'm out the next 2+ days.

Anyone who wants some, let me know if you don't mind waiting until Friday. I know Sarah needs a bag...and someone else wanted some...BAD MEMORY with fried brains in this heat! Sheesh.

Hello and welcome! I read your BYC page. Congrats to your kids on their wins at the fair. Pretty cool. I love the look of your old barn and the old nestboxes and feeders. It looks secure and comfortable for them. You've got a pretty nice assortment of chickens. If you are wanting black copper marans, I am getting ready to thin down for the winter. I will be building a new barn next year, but it won't be ready before winter, so it's time to cut down some. I've also got some very nice ameraucanas that I will be thinning down soon. Let me know if you are interested, just send me a PM.

Boy, I've been lazy today. The heat has just taken it out of me. I still have to get the grass mowed, so I better get out there and at least get that much done.

You be careful in this heat- Dad's visiting from Wisconsin and went down for the count this morning before 10, and I've had a raging headache from just being out until 11. It was 100 before that. ugh.

Great coop! Love the Christmas lights you hung! I bet that adds great ambiance during the evening. I especially love your screen door! WOW! I would love to find one of those ornate doors! So neat! Read your page, very neat!

I did my chores this morning and came in shortly after noon. I haven't been back out all day. It was making me feel ill. It was 106 the last time I looked here. Let's all set a time and for 2 minutes concentrate on thinking about the weather cooling down to the mid 70's. Maybe with all those great minds thinking the same it will happen.
I'd probably have to wear a jacket or something if it cooled down that much. Maybe if we think 70's it will cool down to 80.
I can only imagine how awful it must have been to have the kids out in this weather, Loralee. Those little people think that if they fuss enoug1h that Mom's can fix anything. Too bad we can't!

Yikes! I'd say you need to take it easy. I was the same way this morning, I went out, checked horses and fed the turkey and I was DONE. There was no way I was going to work. Which is why I thought it was a good idea to run errands. Uh.. no. This summer is never ending. My ferriar is telling me that the winter will be bad, too. This might just be one miserable year. But I hope not!

I have progress! I finished an entire wall tonight!!! YAY! So that is 2 walls down... two more to go! I would take pictures.. but really, it all looks the same at this point. I'm going to wait until I get walls ON the coop base before I post any more pics. I put together the pop door wall, so it was actually really easy- no windows to frame out. I framed out the door and a small vent area next to it. Tomorrow is another window wall... plus the people door. Ugh.

Good luck on that wall tomorrow. Take it easy. It's supposed to be hotter here tomorrow than it was today! Will this heat ever end? I did get the grass cut, but not much more than that. We've had so much rain (sorry you guys who are dry) and the heat has caused the grass and weeds to grow like the corn. I had to mow the south yard on the highest setting for the mower, so I will have to go back over it soon. I should have told my hubby to swath it and bale it!

We've been looking at land in northeast Washington. Sometime in the description it will say "you can see Canada". If things go right this will be are last summer here.

Wow! Any reason in particular you are moving? Besides the heat, that is.

How is the cost of living up there? Our friends live in Portland, Or and they told us that cost of living is much higher and they ended up with smaller property and house than what they had here. They moved because of his job, otherwise they would not have gone. But you have to go where the money is. I love where I live... that is, until we have summers like this.

I really need to get off of here, I keep looking at coop designs. I'm totally obsessed! ha!

NE WA is lovely. I couldn't live near the ocean because of the continuous cloudiness, but central and eastern WA are really nice. My daughter lived in central WA for a couple of years, and I loved visiting there.
