ByNatureFarms- what is a Narrangsett? Is this a really large bird? 11 inches, hu? That seems really small, but you'd know! The turkey thread was recommending much larger, but perhaps they have really big birds over there. My Royal Palm is not supposed to be a very big turkey as far as turkey's go. I think perhaps I will make my framed door a bit smaller... now I'm worried!

Chicken Danz, thank you! My DH was actually very surprised when my walls ended up being level right off as soon as we put them on. I took a lot of care in measuring them out and making them level when I was working on them on the drive way. I'm so excited! I am dreading making this next wall, though. I think it might be just as difficult as the nestbox wall... well, maybe not. But there will be a lot of measuring for the window and door. Sigh. Oh, and I LOVE your profile picture! That is a gorgeous picture of you two! It looks like a professional shot, with how great the lighting is. Very nice!

Her tractor was in full sun. We open her pen up ever morning so her and her BF could roam the yard and get some shade. I moved her tractor under an old walnut tree when she went broody, I did not her her sitting in the tractor all day in the sun. It still has not clicked with her, there are eggs around that she could sit on but she won't, I put some eggs under her and she will move the eggs or just move about 6 inches so she is not on the eggs and she will not go or stay in the nest box. The walnut are all over the place, some are partially buried, few are just there.

A Narrangsett is a breed of heritage turkey, very pretty. This was a hen I am not sure if a tom would fit. If you get the turkeys young they will use the opening and when they get big they will squeeze though the hole. When I get some more turkeys I will try an 11" hole if it seams to small for a tom I would increase the hole size 15". The guy I bought her from used a nest box that was about 18" x 12". http://heritageturkeyfoundation.org/

Thanks, My son does photography and he took it. There was actually 7 of us in the pic, him included . He set us all up and then took the picture. I just cut it down to put in here because I didn't have much room. It is the most recent picture I have and it was taken last Thanksgiving. I hate getting pictures taken.
You have no idea what a difference square and level makes. I'll just bet he was impressed. I've seen some pretty sloppy builds especially from new builders. When I think back some of the stuff I did before I knew better I feel embarassed!

ByNature- my nest boxes will be nearly 19 inches deep (thinking ahead for the turkey and I'd like to get a couple more turkeys). My pop door is currently 15 inches square, maybe I should just leave it alone. I keep going back and forth. I certainly don't want to have to do any construction once this is over with! Thank you for the link to the narrangestta turkey- and WOW! That is a gorgeous turkey! I thought the Royal Palm toms were gorgeous- but that one puts mine to shame! LOL!

I'm a bit bummed. I got my wood cut for my next wall and two pieces are too warped to screw them together. And I am all out of lumber! I need to make a trip to Lowes, but I need to wait until someone can watch the kids so I can take the truck to town. Two car seats will not fit on the bench seat in my truck. The weather was actually gorgeous this morning! Slow warm up, and I could have worked for quite a bit of time. Figures. If my DH comes home early, I could run in and be back and still have some decent time to work this evening. I hope!

My birthday is tomorrow. My wish is to have this all just magically be DONE for me! hehe! I keep telling my DH that I would LOVE to run into Ahmed from 'Yard Crashers'. (show on HGTV) If I ever saw him hanging out at my Lowes, I'd tackle him! ha!

You should definitely be proud of your son's ability to take great shots!
I have been spending a lot of time on the coop building threads. I try to listen and pay attention to what everyone says, I even take notes! I've printed off a couple of pictures of ideas that I am incorporating. I have seen some pretty sloppy builds, too and I am determined not to have mine look like that. Although, it could easily have gone that way since I really don't know what I'm doing- just trying to copy everyone else's. I also am lucky that DH has all the tools I need. I think he's really enjoying taking a backseat to this project, though. I've said before, if I had to wait on him to help me or do it for me- it would take forever- or not at all! He is a marathoner in his spare time, so he runs constantly. He's run nearly 20 marathons- and he is heavy into his training right now for the Pikes Peak Ascent in 2 weeks. Anyway, he's happy to watch the kids and take them off my hands so I can go out and work. During the morning hours, the kids play around me, but I'm always having to scoot them back when I'm using the saws. So it's really nice when he gets home- even if he is running on the treadmill. The kids flock to him and just like to be around him.

You are so lucky to have a good hubby. I never had help with the kids even when I was married.
Happy Birthday. We are sisters of the sun! My birthday is in 4 days!!

I think your door will be fine. As long as they can get in and out and you can shut it I don't think size should matter.
Anything large enough for a chicken is also large enough for a predator so why make it a cramped opening?

So true!! I guess anything can squeeze into that opening no matter the size. Okay, good point!
Happy Birthday to you too!! Very cool! I LOVE being a Leo and having a summer birthday.

I have ordered my cake- it's a speciality cake called a Chocolate Ganache. I look forward to this cake every year- it's my favorite! Have to share a picture because seriously, this is the ultimate of all chocolate cakes!

Cheri's Bakery in Wichita makes the best. It's filled with cremes of both chocolate and vanilla with buttercream frosting and then drenched in real melted chocolate.
