So true!! I guess anything can squeeze into that opening no matter the size. Okay, good point!
Happy Birthday to you too!! Very cool! I LOVE being a Leo and having a summer birthday.

I have ordered my cake- it's a speciality cake called a Chocolate Ganache. I look forward to this cake every year- it's my favorite! Have to share a picture because seriously, this is the ultimate of all chocolate cakes!

Cheri's Bakery in Wichita makes the best. It's filled with cremes of both chocolate and vanilla with buttercream frosting and then drenched in real melted chocolate.

You made me hungry. I just got back in from feeding and watering. Baking sounds like a good project. Anything but cleaning house! My one true hate!!!

Oh and Loralee, I am a proud Leo too. I am so true to form it is scary. I would think a winter birthday would just be awful. I am definitely a sunshine and warmth kind of 'girl' even when it is this hot. Anything below 70 degrees makes me miserable.

I've always felt the same way, too! I'm an outdoor girl, for sure! I've always thought it was crazy how the Leo description fits me to a T. Yeah, I've been outside in the horse barn bringing them in from the pasture and putting them up hosing them all down. My gelding LOVES having water put on him- he will turn side to side so that you don't miss anything on him. He raises his head up and closes his eyes and relaxes- he's quite funny. My other mare seems to be doing better today, but I made sure to bring them all in before it got too miserable. There is a nice breeze going thru the breeze-way in the hall between the stall fronts. It's HOT, but at least it's better than being in direct sun. I came back in sweating and hot, but I love being out there! I used to spend a lot of time (before kids) just sitting out there with them talking to them, brushing them down, etc. I grew up with horses, but to me, they are still thrilling!

I grew up with horses, too. I love to ride. My problem is it is really hard to ride anymore because my knees are bad. I can't push myself up in the saddle. I've got a couple halfingers (shorter) but it is still hard to push myself up. I have a couple arabians that I agreed to take in for a friend. They are just out there. She got to the point she was no longer able to take care of them, so I told her I would. They all have a pasture with grass, trees, fresh running spring water and seem to be pretty happy, but oh....this heat! They seem to be loosing weight just standing around, and I'm sure it's the heat and humidity. I hoping when this hot weather breaks we can expand the pasture some. There's always some project going on.

Yesterday we cut down a couply thorny locust trees in the pasture where the goats could get to it. They thought they had died and gone to heaven. I think they would rather eat tree leaves than anything. Last year they got out of their pen a couple times and they totally defoliated the trees I had planted in the yard! I wasn't happy about that.

I wouldn't worry about the size of your pop up door. It will be plenty big for a turkey, and when you leave it open it will be just that much more ventilation.

I took the tractor and got some dirt piled up to make a ramp to the stock tank I moved and filled yesterday. Just while ago when I was out watering and feeding again the ducks finally discovered it. One of them took a very long swim but the others were just quacking and dipping their beaks. But at least I know now they will use it. Now if I could get my silly dog to go there instead of the pond (which at this point is just a nasty mud hole) I'd be happy.
I hooked up the misters again this afternoon and all the birds spent their day crowded around them. As for my silly hens that insist on sitting on the nests, I put a gallon jug of ice in a bucket with water near the nest boxes. I hope that helped keep them cool. I had to take a break and run to town. Funny. I can work all day and be fine but one little trip to town wears me out. I guess I'm meant to be out here with the chickens! I still have a couple of babies to move out of the hatcher to the brooder, shut the birds in for the night and then I can relax.

IvyWoods, I used to do a LOT of riding of all kinds. My oldest mare is an arabian! I used her for FunShow events and when I ran barrels, I generally placed with her. She is so incredibly smart- much smarter than my other two horses. I've just recently gotten down to 3 horses, a much more manageable number for me. I had 5 and sold down to my favorites that I just could not get rid of. Now I just trail ride, there is good riding around here down the dirt roads and there is a really nice horse park that I trailer out to. My friends and I always plan a girls weekend out at Kanopolis State Park and we all drive up our horses and spend a couple of nights there and ride the trails all day. My horses have lost some weight too this summer. I recently switched their feed to a higher protein/fat content to beef them up a bit so they don't get too skinny. They have the pasture and hay, but its not enough for them, so I grain them everyday. Are those two arabians ridable that you have out there? Funny about the goats eating the downed tree.

Chicken Danz, isn't it funny how much they love those misters? My turkey sits right in front of it and purposely puts her head straight into the blast of mist and then she'll move over a bit and shake her head and do it all over again when she's hot. Sounds like you were really busy yesterday with all the dirt hauling and setting up the tank to be used as a little pond. Did your dog ever figure out it was there? Cute that the ducks figured it out right away.

So- you won't believe this- but we had a tornado last night! Blew all of my lumber around that I had outside and shook the house up pretty good. We didn't have a direct hit- I think it was just pretty darned close, is all. Our power went off immediately after it and I called our electric CoOp and they said that a tornado hit some power lines and messed up trees and lines and it was a big mess. We were out of power for 6 hours while they tried to get it all sorted out. We weren't sure it was a tornado at first, either- my Dh and I looked at each other wide eyed during it and I kept asking him- is that the train out there, or could that be a tornado? We kind of laughed it off but it did freak us out- but we kept saying- NO tornados this late in summer!! So that was crazy. I woke up this morning and there are 2X4's and debris in my front lawn! Whoa!
