Consolidated Kansas

Oh, as far as places to see, I'm not much for tourist stuff. I'm just as happy driving through the country looking at fields, trees and pastures. I'm kind of a tree nut. There is, however, the Davis Memorial here in Hiawatha, an Ag Museum and St. Joseph has several historic places, but I haven't been to any of them.

Yes danz it dose seem I get a bit of bad luck, fortunatly it sounds like my wife WILL get unemployment so it won't be horible bad but we may have to disconnect the internet for a bit in the next month or so.

It is always a downer to lose bird and I feel for all of you that have lost birds. To our new members, welcome and I hope you enjoy the site and this thread. If you need anything, I don't have any birds currently but, I'm somewhat knowledgable in brooding small numbers of chicks, I've also had quail, pheasant, and pigeons. I read alot just to gain the knowledge so, once in a while, I see a question I know the answer to.

I also have connections for birds from time to time.

I'm here in White City, ks. I have 4 RIR hens that are just starting to lay. 1 RIR rooster who is a big baby. 2 BO's that are just starting to lay. 26 Black stars from McMurray that are 8 weeks old and of course the free rare who we think is an easter egger roo. 1 other rooster who is a barnyard mix who we want to get rid of and 2 other hens that we have no idea what breeds they are. We got them from a swap meet in Manhattan. One of them is the biggest hen I have ever seen, neither one of them are laying yet. We only have 2 of the RIR's that are actively laying at this time but the others I suspect are getting close. We bought them at Orscheln's on May 19th. If you are anywhere near here let me know.

I'm in the middle between Highland,White Cloud and Hiawatha. Never been to Hartter's Feed and Seed in Sabetha. What all do they sell?

Bama I lived in Sabetha for 4 year I recomend taking a tour of Knoblock's Prairie Ranch just east of town. They raise alpacas and have a really neat place out there, if your into that sort of thing. Steven is ussually more than willing to give tours if you give them a call and ask nicely.

The number is on their web site if you google Knoblock's Alpacas. Shanna, I lived down there in alta vista for a few months in 2009-10, I'm in Riley now though.

YES! We are neighbors. I am northeast of Hiawatha, but not as far as Highland. We will have to get together sometime! You can't be more than a few miles from me.

They have a layer mash that they mix up. I think you can get them to mix your own special mix, but you have to buy a pretty big lot to do it. They also have bagged feed. I'm not sure what brand. I buy their own mix because it is cheaper.

Sounds like me. My adopted-ish father took me and my family to Canada to "camp" a few years ago. We spent almost the whole time in town. "camping" is his way of not paying for a hotel.

I'm a former innercity kid who is slowly working his way into the boonies. I thought I would be satisfied with our move to Oskaloosa but frankly I just don't want to live in town at all. But of course with the house market crisis I doubt we'll be selling anytime soon. At least we're not underwater in value yet.

Welcome ! I don't think I've seen you on this thread before. I lived in Council Grove for 22 years and still partially own a house there. (I am selling it on contract.) You may know my old house. It's about 2 blocks north of main on Mission Street. A big old victorian at the NW corner of Mission and Hays.
Aren't chickens great?! I am now down north of Burlington out by the nuclear plant.
