Consolidated Kansas

So far so good. I took a huge loss on the place because I just couldn't afford to drive and mow the lawn and stuff. (160 miles round trip)
But we had an attorney write up the papers so it was protecting both parties. I've gotten every payment so far. They have a time limit on how long they can take to pay off the bulk of the balance. (they are trying to sell their other home.) They pay insurance and taxes and are allowed to make improvements. The title stays in my name until it is paid in full. If they back out they loose their investment. They put $5000 down and make monthly payments. They have 3 years tops to pay it off either by cash or getting their own loan.

OH man, I am so upset. I was out feeding and noticed one of my turkeys sleeping. She isn't doing good at all. I tried to give her some duramyacin and some pedialite but she isn't interested in eating or drinking. I really don't want to loose her. All of them seemed healthy yesterday but she feels very skinny like she might have been loosing weight. Any ideas? Help!

It seems I have a broody! I hope Atwoods still has chicks next week when I'm sure she is gonna stick. This is the 4th time she has been broody since March. Who needs a silky when I have her?!

I'm not sure who that is but Chookschick has some knowledge base on that. Also if you do a BYC search you can read up on how to get things changed. Burlington just passed the ordinance to allow poultry in town. You might call city hall there and see how that went through. I think a petition would be the best way to begin or go to a city council meeting and give your reasons. The two complaints you are going to get is filth or smell and noise. Noise can be combated by suggesting that roosters aren't allowed or a limit of 1. Another is to limit the number of chickens allowed per home. Another would be to suggest they must be housed behind the front of the house, etc etc. Many of the larger cities across the U.S. are now allowing poultry with some restrictions. Stress that individual housing developments have the right to make their own rules. (That way the "better than thou's" can keep their pristine little neighborhoods.)
Another good argument right now is that the cost of cattle and other meat animals is getting out of hand. With drought conditions and price of grain, the price of meat is going to sky rocket. Due to the economy in general, people should be allowed to produce some of their own eggs and meat. More people are moving to poultry because it is cheaper to produce and eat.
Just some arguments to produce.

WOW!! So many new people! YAY! That is so exciting! Welcome to everyone!

SeramasLover- there is me and another lady that live in the Wichita area! So that makes 3 of us here, that I know of. Most everyone else lives north of us. How old is your daugher? I have two boys that are 7yrs and 4yrs and a girl that is 3yrs. Definitely hook up with Danz and her seramas! She has a lot to choose from!

Wow, there were like 3 or 4 pages for me to go thru when I got back this afternoon! You guys have been busy chatting it up! ha! I am exhausted! I just went out to go get 4 bales of straw this morning and then it turned into an all day long marathon of errands after that. My little ones were worn out and crabby. They were out of school today- conferences, and my oldest doesn't have school tomorrow or Monday. Which means I will get to sleep in.

Danz, do you suppose your turkey has parasites? I was reading the other day about someone's bird that got really thin and she had worms. I hope it's not too late to do something about her.

Crazy how fast they go down- from one day to the next. I've been putting ACV in the chicks water now, thinking I better stay on top of things since who knows what they will get into once they get to play in the dirt. What do you worm a turkey with anyway? I'm wondering if mine might need it? Or is she too young?

Ritter, sorry about the job. That totally bites. Hope your DW can find something soon!

I'm off to kill flies! They have invaded my garage and are getting into the house when I open the door. I just realized why yesterday-- the chicks brooder is in the garage! So I'm thinking that is attracting the flies! Ugh, I HATE them!! (flies... not the chicks) ha!
