Consolidated Kansas

ckDunham- sounds like you got your house all set up! Yay!! Hope you have a fun house warming party!

(its a bit too far to drive for me--ha!)

Ivy, I think I would have been a little excited over a couple of extra babies! fun! I bet that was pretty funny when you opened the extra birds and wondered where your roo had gone! ha!

Okay, as promised here is the coop as it looks today. Going to get the doors on today and work on the inside!

It shows both windows are on and a bit more trim is put on. I did do some walls on the inside, but I didn't take a pic. Oh and the breeze is blowing the windows out- they aren't actually sticking out on their own.

Hawkeye your coop is looking great! I still say you need to come help me build my breeder coop in the spring! You do such a fantastic job! You could have fooled me that you haven't built anything before.

Yes, I know where McCune is, I live South and East of Columbus, and I also drive a school bus. I run 3 routes a day. Which adds up a little over 150 miles a day.

Remeber, they usually do not raise the eggs that they hatch. They have people breed the birds, and then pick up and pay the breeders for the eggs. You can not always be sure if the breeder had something else get in the pen. Doesn't happen alot, but it does. Sorry you did not get what you wanted, maybe you can find something nice up at Hutchinson, ivywoods said you were going to go.

Yes, I'm going to the show!! I can't wait, I think it will be a lot of fun!

So exciting that you're in SE area! All of my grandparents (and my parents) grew up in or around Cherokee Country! And when I was a kid, I went to school in McCune, Ks. Have you heard of that town? It's really tiny. But my uncle and cousins still live in McCune (in the country) and we get out there from time to time. We always come down for Memorial Day to decorate the graves in McCune and in Pittsburg. I LOVE Chicken Annies! One of my grandma's moved into Girard for about 30 years after they sold their farm. So, I spent many years on the square, taking swim lessons at the Girard pool in the summers and going to vacation bible school there. Good times. We still have a lot of land down there, so my dad takes me down there and he's trying to teach me the ins and outs of farming. (we have tenants, but he wants me to learn it anyway). So I'm really familiar with that area! That is so cool that you're down there.

Very cool that you're helping the 4-H too! My oldest boy is now old enough to join, so we signed up last month.

Of course, we're going to do poultry.

Oh, by the way I will be selling the other 2 pullets. They are BBRed, and very nice. I just don't have a cockerel to go with them, but if someone had a really nice show quality cock bird, they would get some really nice oe's. These girls are out of show stock that came from Texas, Arkansas. Three different show breeders who are all master breeders in oe's. These are still very young, but no doubt are show quality pullets.

Trish--awww, they're really pretty! What color egg do they lay? I like the chain link fence. I have been debating on getting an additional dog run just so I can separate out chickens later on, and chain link seems like a great idea. And sure I could build you something if you didn't mind waiting 6 months for it! LOL!!

Thanks guys, I think they're pretty too! Hawkeye, these birds are only temporarily in the dog run until they get a little more used to being here, then they will go into the coop & run with the rest of the birds, at least until next spring when I get my new coop built (hopefully). I had gotten this run to put my guineas in until they grew more, but I sold them to a friend, so this pen serves right now for whatever I need it for. I was hoping to use it for a grow-out pen eventually, but it sounds like it may get used soon for a new puppy we hope to get. I also have a bigger double dog run that I want to divide & use with my new coop, but I took it down from where it was so I can move it. Oh, BTW, these girls haven't laid yet, so I don't know what color of egg they will lay, but I have read it is a creamy light brown color, probably close to the color I get from my Barred Rocks.

Ha, Hawkeye, well it will probably take that long for hubby to help me with anything too, he is slow as molasses, especially with any project that isn't HIS idea or an interest to him, which my chickens aren't.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN YALL!!

Since its holloween.. My babies get a special treats of spaghettis.. alot of strings to peck at lol.. what you treat your chickens for this holiday?

SeramasLover, happy halloween to you too! We're getting ready to leave here in a bit to take the kids trick or treating! Going to take them to my Mother in Law's neighborhood. One of the draw backs of living in a rural area is there are only a few homes near us, and it wouldn't be worth it.

Trish, great ideas on the dog pens! I need to find one on CraigsList!

Okay- so I got a lot done today! Yippee!! I got walls put up on the inside and I got the doors put on! Whew. FINALLY!!! Okay, here is a picture of the doors!! But, I used treated lumber to build them, so I can't paint them yet until they have time to cure/dry out. Tomorrow I'll put latches and locks on the doors. We bought our siding too- so that is next!
